Disney Cruise Line News and Specials — Week of July 28, 2020

Sponsored by Storybook Destinations

Ahoy, mateys! I’m Heather, and I’ll be bringing you the up and coming on all things Disney Cruise Line. Welcome back again this week. Let’s see what’s new in the DCL world!

What’s New

Hip hip hooray, it’s booking week for Fall 2021! The fall itinerary announcement was about 6 or so weeks past when we would have normally anticipated, but it comes at a great time. With the CDC no-sail order shutting cruising down until October 1 (as of the time of this post), guests who were scheduled to sail this fall are pleased to finally have dates for next fall to be able to book with the future cruise credit they’ve banked on cancelled sailings. Disney is also (unofficially) extending placeholder onboard booking offers (for reservations currently booked with a placeholder). I stress that this is unofficial, as nothing has been released in writing; however it has so far been my experience, as well as the experience of many others, to have their benefits extended past the current expiration date when modifying a reservation currently booked with a placeholder. If you are booking a new cruise, or changing the dates on an existing booking to one of the new dates, with your placeholder discount, you will want to keep in mind that there are blockout dates, largely those connected with Thanksgiving/Christmas/New Years. The Fall 2021 blockout dates are:

Disney Magic

  • November 22, 2021 5-Night Western Caribbean
  • December 20, 2021 6-Night Western Caribbean
  • December 26, 2021 3-Night Bahamian
  • December 29, 2021  5-Night Western CaribbeanDisney Cruise Line News and Specials — Week of July 28, 2020

Disney Wonder

  • November 23, 2021 6-Night Bahamian
  • December 21, 2021 6-Night Western Caribbean
  • December 27, 2021 4-Night Western Caribbean
  • December 31, 2021 6-Night Bahamian

Disney Dream

  • November 22, 2021 4-Night Bahamian
  • December 24, 2021 3-Night Bahamian
  • December 27, 2021 4-Night Bahamian
  • December 31, 2021 3-Night Bahamian

Disney Fantasy

  • November 21, 2021 7-Night Western Caribbean
  • December 19, 2021 7-Night Western Caribbean
  • December 26, 2021 7-Night Eastern Caribbean

I have to say I have been pleasantly surprised with the prices for next fall – many people anticipated huge increases to make up for lost revenue, but that has not been the case at all. Pricing for next fall has been very similar to Fall 2020 opening day pricing.

While we still stay home and wonder when our cruising life will begin, Disney has treated us to a full recording of Tangled: The Musical to watch at home! Pop some popcorn, crank the air conditioning (because y’all know the temperature in the Walt Disney Theater is sub-zero), and pretend you are enjoying the best night on any Disney Magic itinerary – Tangled takeover night!

Weekly Specials

Most every week of the year, Disney Cruise Line releases special offers for Florida Residents and U.S. Military Personnel.  There are also frequently IGT/OGT/VGT rates available for all guests to book.  These offers are extremely limited in availability, and all come with certain restrictions, but the prices are amazing! You can book these online, on the phone, or with your travel agent. These are the current offers available this week:

Select Walt Disney World Resort Hotels See Delayed Reopenings

Today, the Walt Disney World Resort shared that a number of their hotels will be delayed in reopening. The reopening dates of a number of hotels was announced back in June, but due to a number of reasons, the resort has decided to push back the reopening a few hotels, mainly Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort and Disney’s Art of Animation Resort.

The new planned reopening dates for Disney Resort hotels will be as follows:

  • July 29: Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort
  • Aug. 24: Disney’s Yacht Club Resort
  • Sept. 21: Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
  • Oct. 4: Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort
  • Oct. 14: Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort
  • Nov. 1: Disney’s Art of Animation Resort

In addition, while Disney had previously shared reopening dates for Disney’s Beach Club Resort and Disney’s BoardWalk Inn, these Disney Resort hotels will remain closed until further notice and their reopening timeline will be reevaluated.

Due to the fluidity of the current environment, Disney has stated that they will continue to evaluate adjustments to Disney Resort hotel opening dates as needed and will reopen when the timing is right to do so.

Disney will be reaching out to Guests who have upcoming reservations that are impacted by changes and will modify reservations to other Walt Disney World Resort hotels.

Walt Disney World Resort Makes Additional Changes to Face Mask Guidelines

If there’s one thing we’ve learned about dealing with COVID-19, it’s that things are ever changing. Due to that fact, the Walt Disney World Resort has updated their guidelines on the the types of face coverings that they will be allowing.

This new update indicates that face masks containing valves, mesh material, or holes of any kind are also not acceptable. Previously, Disney also stated that neck gaiters and open-chin triangle bandanas are not acceptable face coverings and will not be allowed as options for Guests to wear when visiting the Walt Disney World Resort. In addition, costume masks are also not considered appropriate and are prohibited from being worn.

As a reminder, in order to visit the Walt Disney World Resort, Guests ages 2 and up are required to wear face coverings at all times, except when dining or swimming.

All face masks (whether disposable or reusable) must:

  • Be made with at least two layers of breathable material
  • Fully cover the nose and mouth and secure under the chin
  • Fit snugly but comfortably against the side of the face
  • Be secured with ties or ear loops and allow the Guest to remain hands-free

In addition, the Walt Disney World Resort has closed a loophole where Guests did not have to wear a face mask while walking if they were consuming food or beverage items. Guests who need to remove their masks for a prolonged period of time are directed to head to one of the park’s “Relaxation Zones.”

The team here at TouringPlans has done research on some of the best face coverings. (Though do keep in mind that some of this research was done prior to the new rules coming out – ie. the discontinued use of gaiters at all Disney locations.) Take a look at Part 1 and Part 2.

Keep in mind that this current mask policy can change at any time according to health guidelines. Also, while wearing a face covering is mandatory, the use of these kinds of masks are not a substitute for physical distancing.
