Breaking news! The Disney company has announced that ‘Tron 3’ is officially in development!
Jared Leto is reportedly being considered to star in the next exciting chapter of the Tron movie franchise. Disney is also searching for a movie director for the sequel. Although not confirmed, it’s hoped that Tron: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski will return.
Disney music executive Mitchell Leib discussed the future of the Tron franchise in a recent podcast. He first talked about working with Daft Punk on the music for Tron: Legacy, but then switched into a conversation about the development of a tentative “Tron 3” sequel. He confirmed that Disney already has a script in hand, too. With the success of Disney+, “Tron 3” may come out as a direct-to-streaming movie.
“Now with Disney+, I think there’s opportunities to be creating content that we otherwise wouldn’t have been able to create, you know because we’re in the movie business,” Leib explained. “We’re in the big movie business, and unless it’s a big movie idea we don’t make small movies. We’re only after basically billion dollar box office hits. On the one hand, that’s great. On the other hand, that’s a very narrow sleeve to operate in, and Disney+ I think is going to afford us the opportunity to expand and get much more diversified in the kind of content we can create. And Daft Punk has a bit of a television and movie development company, and all kinds of things they’re into, businesses they’re into. So I had lunch with Paul Hahn to further a bit of a starting conversation that we’re looking at making a sequel to Tron now, we’re looking at Tron 3. And we’ve got a great script, I mean a really phenomenal script that we’re very excited about. Whereas the timing wasn’t right to have done it years ago, I think we feel like the timing is right now, and I feel like we’ve learned a lot of lessons from that last movie.”
We’ll provide updates when more information becomes available.

Inspired Schoolgirl Asks for Disney Princesses with Glasses
Eleven-year-old Lowri Moore, from Nottingham, England, wrote a letter to Bob Iger last year requesting the creation of Disney princesses that wear glasses. According to BBC News, Lowri, who wears glasses, said that she wanted to see more characters “wearing glasses like me.”
Lowri’s letter to Bob Iger read: “I’ve grown up watching Disney princesses and I’ve always admired them and thought they were beautiful. Unfortunately, none of the princesses wear glasses and that made me feel as though I’m not beautiful enough.”
Lowri described that the Disney characters featured with glasses were typically portrayed as “geeky or nerdy instead of beautiful.” She felt so strongly about the need for a glasses-wearing Disney princess that she came up with her own!
A local illustrator, Natalie Owen, heard about Lowri’s letter and character idea, and was a Disney fan herself- so she decided to help out! According to BBC News, Owen decided to create the story, ‘Princess Rose and the Golden Glasses,’ featuring a beautiful princess in an orange gown and, you guessed it…glasses!
Lowri was thrilled about the glasses-wearing princess- “The illustrations are amazing and I’m so excited this has happened. Rose has blue-ish glasses, brown long hair, kind of like me. Even if it’s not Disney it’s still a role model for young people. I’m happy I got to create one.”
Lowri’s mother was also touched by the new book- “[The character] thinks she’s not beautiful because she’s wearing glasses. A bit like someone else I know. And she goes on a bit of an adventure where she discovers she actually is beautiful. To come from a nine-year-old’s mind it’s so clever. I’m super proud.”
Although there is no response from Disney to Lowri’s letter, it would be great to see a glasses-wearing Disney princess in the future!

Disney Postpones Theatrical Release of ‘Mulan‘ for a Second Time Over Coronavirus Concerns. After already being postponed 4 months from its original release date of March 27th to July 24th, Disney is officially moving the release date for the film a second time.
“Making this films has been one of the most satisfying and exhilarating experiences of my entire career, and I’ve been so fortunate to be on this journey with some of the best cast and crew in the business,” director Niki Caro shared via Instagram following the initial release date change from March to July. “We are so excited to share this film with the world, but given the current ever-shifting circumstances we all are experiencing, unfortunately, we have to postpone the worldwide release of Mulan for now. Our hearts are with everyone the world over who is affected by this virus, and we hope that Mulan’s fighting spirit will continues to inspire those who are working so hard to keep us all safe,” Caro added.

The latest Disney live-action remake will now premiere in theaters on August 21st, instead of July 24th as previously planned. The primary reason, according to the Wall Street Journal, is the lack of attendance as theaters are beginning to re-open. Any film company would be hesitant to release a new film when audiences are at minimal capacity in theaters, so this doesn’t really come as a shock to those in the industry, but on the other side of the coin, a highly anticipated film could be just what audiences need to draw them back in to the theaters.
Most theaters, such as AMC Theatres, Cinemark, and Regal Cinemas, that have begun to re-open their doors have put new safety and cleanliness procedures in place to help moviegoers feel more at ease returning to public places, but that hasn’t stirred much confidence among potential audience members as confirmed COVID-19 cases begin to spike in many states that were the first to re-open. Most theaters that have resumed operation are not even featuring relatively new titles yet, and have begun showing iconic films such as Jurassic Park, Back to the Future, E.T., the original Star Wars trilogy, Lord of the Rings, and Jaws to help draw in crowds.

Universal Announces Twister Reboot Potentially Lead by Director from ‘Top Gun: Maverick’. According to an exclusive report from Variety, Universal Pictures is looking to reboot the 1996 hit film, Twister. Sources close to Variety shared that Universal’s top choice to direct the film is Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick, Tron: Legacy). Frank Marshall is currently producing the project and working to get a writing team going for the film.
The original film starred Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt and followed the events that take place in Oklahoma during one of the most powerful storms in decades. “University professor Dr. Jo Harding (Helen Hunt) and an underfunded team of students prepare the prototype for Dorothy, a ground-breaking tornado data-gathering device conceived by her estranged husband, Bill (Bill Paxton). When Harding tells Bill that Dorothy is ready for testing — and that their privately funded rival Dr. Jonas Miller (Cary Elwes) has stolen the idea and built his own — Bill rejoins the storm chasing team for one last mission.”

The film was a massive success, earning $494 million at the global box office in 96, and broke major ground in CGI technology for special effects in film. Senior Vice President, Sara Scott will oversee the project for Universal. It is currently unknown when the film will premiere in theaters and no formal casting choices have been designated at the time fo writing. Johnny Depp Dresses Up as Captain Jack Sparrow for the First Time in Two Years. The famed Pirates of the Caribbean actor has always been passionate about helping others, with one of his most notable feats being that Depp frequently would visit children’s hospitals while dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow while filming in various parts of the world. Recently, Depp made a virtual appearance with several patients currently being treated at Queensland Children’s Hospital in South Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.

During the virtual appearance with Juiced TV, Johnny Depp shared, “It’s been a couple of years since I’ve been there and I miss it and I wanted to say hello.” Depp opened up about his love and willingness to visit with kids who find themselves in prolonged hospital stays and shared that it truly hit home in 2007 when his daughter Lily Rose was admitted and treated at Great Osmond Street hospital in London for E-coli poisoning. “When my daughter was ill in Great Osmond Street, it was the darkest period of my life, I’d always done these visits but after that experience, the visits became more and more important,” he said according to the Graham Norton Show. “The kids [at the hospital] are so courageous but to be able to bring a smile or a giggle to the parents means everything in the world to me.”

Regarding his virtual visit Queensland Children’s Hospital, Johnny Depp said to Daily Mail, “It’s a wonderful facility. I’m with all of you and I send you all my love, all my irreverence, and ignorance because it’s fun to be irreverent and ignorant. Thank you for sticking with me through all these very strange years.” He added, “These three beautiful young people I’ve spoken with this evening and having heard from people who sent videos in, like little Ula, is one of the finest and most beautiful experience that I’ve ever experienced and that is because of all of your commitment to this project and to taking care of one another and to helping out when times are curious and confusing.”

Disney Quietly Adds Fantastic Four to Disney+ Roster. Since the acquisition of Fox by Disney, many fans have wondered when Disney would begin streaming Fox titles on their new streaming service, Disney+. Some of the most anticipated films include the Fox created Marvel movies such as the X-Men films yet others like the Deadpool films have been deemed inappropriate for the streaming service. Though most of the X-Men films are currently streaming via HBO and HBO Max, Disney did quietly add Fantastic Four (2015) to the Disney+ library this week.
The synopsis for the film share on Disney+ states, “A young genius builds a portal to another dimension with help from friends and colleagues but an accident leaves one stranded and the others altered with unusual powers Four years later, the stranded victor returns as a megalomaniacal conqueror and the others must put aside their differences to stop him as the Fantastic Four.”
The movie is a surprise addition to the Disney+ roster and only received a minor announcement via the “New to Disney+” category on the Disney+ home page. Very few featured films have slipped through announcements before being surprisingly added to the streaming service and though it performed poorly in theaters it’s still an interesting take on the iconic characters from the Marvel Comics.

In a recent interview, actor John Krasinski shared that he would love to play Reed Richards for Marvel Studios. More recent designs of Reed Richards within the comics are looking very twin like to The Quiet Place and The Office actor. Rumors spread like wildfire that he was already cast in the role without auditioning after it was revealed Krasinski’s wife, Emily Blunt, was approached by representatives from Marvel Studios while on set for Disney’s The Jungle Cruise, with news spreading that Emily and John were offered the roles of Reed Richards and Sue Storm for the remake of Fantastic Four that would be the first F4 movie tied to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Neither Disney nor Marvel has yet to confirm any of these rumors, but it seems that Krasinski and Blunt seem rather rehearsed in their responses to questions about the potential casting, and have refrained from answering Yes or No so far… Both actors seem eager to work with Marvel Studios, especially after Krasinski came VERY close to playing Captain America in the MCU, previously, and Blunt being very active with Walt Disney Studios with Mary Poppins Returns and The Jungle Cruise.

California Says Film Studios Can Resume Filming as of June 12th With Some Conditions. At the beginning of the COVID-19 Pandemic, filming for television and film ended on a moments notice and has just begun getting the all clear to resume around the world.
This week, the California Department of Public Health made a formal announcement stating: “Music, TV and film production may resume in California, recommended no sooner than June 12, 2020, and subject to approval by county public health officers within the jurisdictions of operations,” the department shared. “To reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission, productions, cast, crew and other industry workers should abide by safety protocols agreed by labor and management, which may be further enhanced by county public health officers.”
According to the report from LA Times, “On Monday, a task force of studios and union officials submitted a 22-page white paper to governors in California and New York; its proposed health and safety guidelines aim to protect workers and performers as production resumes. The paper calls for dramatic changes to what had previously been routine practices in the film and TV industry, which was booming before the pandemic because of the demand for content by multiple streaming services. The shutdown drew focus to long-standing problems with hygiene and sanitation on film sets, including a lack of hand-washing stations.”
It should be noted, some of our favorite upcoming titles are currently or scheduled to be filmed in various locations around the U.S. and the world, so this would only affect titles currently scheduled to film in the State of California. No formal announcement has been made for nationwide filming to resume. We do know that films such as the Avatar Sequels have resumed filming in New Zealand and Prague recently re-opened to international filming and will be one of the filming locations for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier coming to Disney+.

Fan Made Cast List for Disney’s Live-Action ‘Hercules’ Goes Viral. A photo featuring a fan made casting for Disney’s live-action Hercules has taken to social media by storm. Despite this easily being proven as a fan-made casting choice, many Disney Fans were completely on board if the list turned out to be true. Others, not so much…
The photo showcasing the fake casting choices for Disney’s upcoming live-action Hercules was originally shared by RuPaul’s Drag Race Family Facebook page along with the caption: “HERCULES remake is coming. Who else is as excited about this cast as we are?”
The fake casting list features Noah Centineo as Hercules, Jodie Comer as Megara, Jeff Goldblum as Hades, Ian McShane as Zeus, Helen Mirren as Hera, and Danny Devito as Philoctetes, Simon Pegg as Pain, Nick Frost as Panic, Stanley Tucci as Hermes, with the muses played by Jennifer Hudson as Calliope, Janelle Monae as Terpischore, Keke Palmer as Clio, Coco Jones as Melpomene, Amber Riley as Thalia, and finally the three fates played by Helen McCrory as Clotho, Carol Kane as Lachesis, and Imelda Staunton as Atropos.
Since the confirmation from Joe and Anthony Russo (Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame), aka The Russo Brothers, about their involvement in the project, casting choices have been a hot topic among Disney Fans.
Front runners for the roles include Tom Holland and Chris Pratt as Hercules, Ariana Grande as Megara, Beyonce as the Muse Clio, Sylvester Stallone as Zues, Kate Winslet as Hera, and many others up for debate. One fan favored casting choice was for Josh Gad (Frozen, Beauty and the Beast) to play Phil in the film, but the actor himself denied the rumors and the role. “Lol. No. No No. I will not be playing Phil. There is only one man who should be playing Phil and his name is Danny DeVito.”
Ariana Grande set the bar high after her viral performance of “I Won’t Say I’m In Love” during the Disney Family Singalong on ABC earlier this year. The performance also sparked even more interest in the live-action remake.
Though no formal casting decisions have been announced, most (if not all) of the internet is in agreement that Danny DeVito is the only man who could bring Phil to life on the big screen for a second time. Who would be in your “dream cast” for Disney’s live-action Hercules? Do you think Danny DeVito should reprise his role, or should the character be replaced with a fresh face? Should Disney consider a completely new cast for the film, or go with tried and true actors that are familiar faces to audiences? We would love to hear your dream casts and thoughts in the comments!

If you’re seeking adventure on the high seas, it doesn’t get much better than Pirates of the Caribbean — one of Disney’s most ICONIC rides!
But maybe it’s been a while since your last voyage, so here’s a refresher (as well as a little background info) on one of our absolute FAVORITE attractions at the Disney parks!
Type of Attraction
Pirates of the Caribbean is a slow, dark boat ride. It’s such a classic attraction, you’ll find a version of it at all the Disney theme parks except for Hong Kong Disneyland! We’re going to focus on the two versions of the attraction in the United States.
Pirates of the Caribbean originally opened at Disneyland on March 18, 1967 in New Orleans Square. Nearly double the length of Disney World’s attraction, Disneyland’s Pirates of the Caribbean clocks in at 14-1/2 minutes long and has TWO drops instead of only one! These were built not as much for thrills as for necessity — the drops take guests under the Disneyland Railroad to the main show building beyond the train tracks.
Speaking of those drops, the waterfall you drop down is 52′ long, the first drop is only about 18 feet. The second drop is an even shorter 13-foot plunge!
The Disneyland version actually features a unique reverse waterfall at the end of the attraction as well. After all those drops, Imagineers needed a way to get guests back up above ground, so a slow-moving ramp hidden in rushing water was conceived to return guests to the loading area.
Another key difference is how Disneyland’s Pirates of the Caribbean starts! Looking around, you’ll notice the setting looks more like a Louisiana swamp, complete with an antebellum mansion you float past, than the Caribbean Islands!
That’s because the theming of the Pirates attraction was based on real New Orleans pirates like Jean Lafitte, making the New Orleans Square setting appropriate. And that antebellum mansion? That’s because Blue Bayou Restaurant shares a building with the ride!
Blue Bayou Restaurant
That means you can actually DINE INSIDE Disneyland’s version of the attraction! Once you disembark, you’ll exit next to Pieces of Eight — Disneyland’s Pirates of the Caribbean-themed gift shop! There’s usually some cool Nightmare Before Christmas stuff inside too!
Walt Disney World
Pirates of the Caribbean is located in Adventureland’s Caribbean Plaza at Magic Kingdom, just past the Jungle Cruise. The ride opened at Disney World on December 15, 1973, and lasts 8-1/2 minutes.
Only one 14-foot drop takes place at the beginning of the ride, and although it has fewer scenes than Disneyland’s, you’ll still see 125 Audio-Animatronics figures, including 65 pirates and villagers and 60 animals and birds! The New Orleans storyline and a large portion of the pirates’ lair section of the ride were cut for Disney World’s version. After you ride, check out the Plaza del Sol Caribe Bazaar gift shop for some sweet pirate-themed merch!
Pirates of the Caribbean at Disneyland normally has an average 20-40 minute wait time while Disney World’s version typically has a 20-60 minute standby line. For the shortest wait, try riding Pirates of the Caribbean before noon or after 5 PM.
There is no age or height requirement to ride Pirates of the Caribbean at either Disney park.
Guests using an EVC or wheelchairs can ride Pirates of the Caribbean at both parks if they are able to transfer. Audio description and handheld captioning devices are also available for guests at Disney World and Disneyland.
While you can’t get a FASTPASS to ride Disneyland’s Pirates of the Caribbean, Disney World’s version is FastPass+ eligible.
On both versions of the ride, you’ll explore a damp pirates’ cave and witness an enormous galleon ship exchanging cannonball blasts with a fortress! You’ll hear them whiz over your head and maybe even get splashed by a few as they land!
Once inside the village, you’ll encounter the marauding pirates and revel in their escapades, which includes a lot of RUM and SINGING!
Pirates of the Caribbean has undergone several modifications over the years. While both Disneyland and Disney World’s version of Pirates of the Caribbean existed long before the popular movie franchise that began in 2003, Captain Jack Sparrow and his rival Barbossa were added to both rides in 2006 following the success of the films.
The 2006 additions included a waterfall made of mist that guests floated through, featuring projections of some of the films’ villains. This effect was later removed in 2018 in both parks.
The 2006 addition in Disneyland also included a notable prop from the first Pirates film — the treasure chest of Cortés prop was placed in the pirates’ lair section of the ride atop a mountain of pirate loot.
Jack Sparrow was added in multiple locations throughout the village scene of the ride, including one of the ride’s more controversial moments — the barrel scene. Originally a smarmy pirate resting near a barrel gloated as he admired a woman’s undergarments he held, with the woman hiding in the barrel behind him popping up from time to time. Now, he holds a key and Jack Sparrow resides in the barrel!
Speaking of controversial — this ride has many scenes that have caused a ruckus over the years. Many guests also remember the original Pirates of the Caribbean’s “chase scene” know that it showed male pirates pursuing the village’s women. The scene was first altered to show the pirates chasing after the women in pursuit of items they were carrying, and not just the ladies themselves. The scene was later altered EVEN FURTHER to show the women angrily chasing the men with rolling pins and other objects in their hands!
Most recently, and perhaps most controversially, the “Take a Wench for a Bride” scene was altered at both Disneyland and Disney World. The famous Mercado scene used to display women being auctioned off to pirates along with the chant, “We wants the Redhead!”
The scene was swapped in 2018, and the “Redhead” is no longer a villager but now a plundering pirate named Redd! She’s no longer being auctioned off — but she’s helping to oversee the auction of the village’s goods to increase their rum supply instead!
A few smaller additions have been introduced over the years including the short-lived underwater mermaid effect in Walt Disney World’s version in 2012. This was tied into the release of Pirates of the Caribbean — On Stranger Tides, which featured siren-like mermaids. A tied-up mermaid skeleton was added to the beach scene nearby as well. The effect was difficult to maintain since it was completely below the water and it was rarely working, so it was ultimately removed in 2018 along with the mermaid skeleton.
Pirates of the Caribbean in Disney World receives a couple of overlays throughout the year for special events. We use the term overlay loosely here — it’s really just a few costumed real pirates in the queue and in scenes of the ride! This still makes the experience more engaging and keeps you on your toes looking for who’s actually REAL!
Pirates of the Caribbean Cast Member (Not an Animatronic!)
You’ll find this overlay as part of Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and Villains After Hours. The two events’ overlays are basically the same, but we did notice for the most recent Villains After Hours it felt like there were a few more pirates than we’d seen at the Halloween Parties.
Look for pirates hiding in the more open areas of the queue, as well in a couple spots on the ride. They can speak and interact with guests, so don’t be surprised to hear them try to talk you into helping them hunt for treasure!
Walt Disney originally designed the attraction in the 1950s, but back then he imagined it as a wax museum and a walk-through adventure! It was one of the last attractions with which Walt Disney was intimately involved. and originally Disney World was never going to have a Pirates of the Caribbean attraction!
Imagineers thought Florida was too close to the actual Caribbean Islands, and that people wouldn’t be interested in it. But when Disney World opened in 1971 WITHOUT the ride, guests were adamant about getting Pirates of the Caribbean! Guests consistently asked Cast Members where Disney World’s version of the ride was located only to be told there wasn’t one! Disney listened and put it in a few years later in 1973!
As you prepare to exit the grotto at Disney World (and encounter the drop) — there’s an on-ride camera that will snap your photo to your left! (Smile and say “CHEESE!” at the talking skull and crossbones.) View it later on the My Disney Experience app where you can download or purchase it!
There are also several hidden Mickeys in the treasure room where Jack Sparrow sits at the end! Look for them on four metal lamps –the lamps are located on each column and two more located on either side of the archway walls.
We hope you’ll get to ride Pirates of the Caribbean soon! Until then, how about joining us in a rousing chorus of “Yo Ho! Yo Ho! A Pirate’s Life for Me”? Any takers?

Disney and Beyoncé In Talks Over $100 Million Deal for Collaboration on 3 New Films. After the wild success of The Lion King (2019) it seems Disney and Beyoncé are in negotiations to collaborate on 3 new films together, including some work on the Black Panther 2 soundtrack.
An inside source spoke with U.K.’s The Sun and claims, “Beyonce’s deal with Disney for The Lion King was one of the biggest it has done to date. Now they want to expand it by giving her free reign to create her own movies under the Disney umbrella.” The insider added: ‘The conversations are ongoing but it’s an exciting proposition.”
Another source shared with The Sun, “Beyoncé has become a major player for Disney and is the perfect fit for their brand. She’s worked on a number of projects for them, including voicing Nala in the reboot of The Lion King, and now they’re keen to secure her for more projects. Disney have put forward a deal worth around [$100 Million], which will secure Beyoncé for three major projects, including the Black Panther sequel. As part of the deal they are also trying to get her team to agree to have Beyoncé voicing some of the new documentaries coming to Disney Plus. After the success of having Meghan Markle voicing the film Elephant on the platform, they have projects coming up which align perfectly with Beyoncé’s brand. The negotiations are still ongoing but it’s the final details that are being thrashed out now.”
In the past, Disney had offered an audition to Beyoncé for the role of Tiana in Disney’s Princess and the Frog, but reports stated that the award winning singer/songwriter/director believed Disney would offer her the part without a formal audition. When she did not show, Disney continued with casting for the film and offered the role to Anika Noni Rose. It seems both the studio and Beyoncé agree with the mantra “Hakuna Matata” and have no worries about partnering together going forward.

With the combined knowledge and talent of both the studio and the multifaceted entertainer there is no doubting Disney and Beyoncé will make a great pair and could create some truly amazing work together. We can’t wait to see Black Panther 2 when it hits theaters May 6, 2022 and the mysterious future titles featuring Beyoncé’s work.

AMC Theatres Set to Reopen All Theaters Soon Despite Financial Troubles. Nearly a week after Cinemark Theaters announced they will be reopening soon it seems AMC Theatres is now ready to share their re-opening plans for the Summer of 2020.
According to journalist Ashley Carter from Orlando’s Spectrum News 13, AMC Theatres plans to open in time to feature Christopher Nolan’s Tenet (scheduled release: July 17, 2020) and Disney’s live-action Mulan (scheduled release: July 24, 2020).
AMC Theatres plans to reopen almost all of its U.S. theaters in July, in time for the release of Christopher Nolan’s #Tenet (July 17) and Disney’s #Mulan (July 24). pic.twitter.com/QoTtpAoXHB
Recently, AMC Theatres held a regulatory meeting and stated how they are generating effectively no revenue. It was said in the meeting that the movie theater company had a cash balance of $718.3 million as of April 2020. An AMC representative stated the following:
“We believe we have the cash resources to reopen our theatres and resume our operations this summer or later. Our liquidity needs thereafter will depend, among other things, on the timing of a full resumption of operations, the timing of movie releases and our ability to generate revenues.”
The biggest challenge for the company is continued delay of theatrical releases. Highly anticipated films such as Mulan, Black Widow, and more have been pushed back due to health concerns during the pandemic. Things were looking dire for the company, but it seems the most popular movie theater chain may see new ownership in the near future after it was revealed Amazon.com has taken a heavy interest in the company.
This would explain why AMC Theatres is comfortable re-opening their doors sooner than expected. If a deal was struck between AMC and Amazon this would afford some much needed time for AMC to recoup losses hovering around the $2.18 billion mark from the previous quarter.
A formal re-opening date has yet to be announced, but new guidelines are expected to be announced very soon on how AMC Theatres plans to address issues such as face masks, audience attendance, and cleaning procedures.

These Disney Live-Action Films Will Debut on Disney+ Earlier than Expected. Many of our favorite films are currently available to stream on Disney+, but what about titles that have yet to debut?
Due to existing contracts between streaming services and television networks, many Disney and related titles could not be added to the Disney+ library at the time of launch. That being said, it seems several live-action Disney movies will be headed to Disney+ sooner than expected!
Here are the titles coming soon(er) to Disney+:
The Jungle Book (2016)
“Raised by a family of wolves since birth, Mowgli (Neel Sethi) must leave the only home he’s ever known when the fearsome tiger Shere Khan (Idris Elba) unleashes his mighty roar. Guided by a no-nonsense panther (Ben Kingsley) and a free-spirited bear (Bill Murray), the young boy meets an array of jungle animals, including a slithery python and a smooth-talking ape. Along the way, Mowgli learns valuable life lessons as his epic journey of self-discovery leads to fun and adventure.”
The Jungle Book was set to swing onto Disney+ beginning May 30, 2021, but the streaming service has changed that date to June 19th 2020.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales
“Thrust into an all-new adventure, a down-on-his-luck Capt. Jack Sparrow feels the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost sailors led by his old nemesis, the evil Capt. Salazar, escape from the Devil’s Triangle. Jack’s only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, but to find it, he must forge an uneasy alliance with a brilliant and beautiful astronomer and a headstrong young man in the British navy.”
“An arrogant prince is cursed to live as a terrifying beast until he finds true love. Strangely, his chance comes when he captures an unwary clockmaker, whose place is then taken by his bold and beautiful daughter Belle. Helped by the Beast’s similarly enchanted servants, including a clock, a teapot and a candelabra, Belle begins to see the sensitive soul behind the fearsome facade. But as time runs out, it soon becomes obvious that Belle’s cocky suitor Gaston is the real beast of the piece.”
The live action Beauty and the Beast starring Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, Luke Evans, Josh Gad, Emma Thompson, Ewan McGregor, and Ian McKellen, was scheduled to stream via Disney+ on October 1, 2020, but has been moved up to August 21, 2020.
Alice Through the Looking Glass
“After slipping through a mirror, Alice finds herself back in Underland with the White Queen, the Cheshire Cat, the White Rabbit, Tweedledee and Tweedledum. Her friends tell her that the Mad Hatter is in a funk over the loss of his family. Hoping to save his loved ones, Alice steals the Chronosphere from Time to travel into the past. While there, she encounters the younger Hatter and the evil Red Queen.”
Alice Through the Looking Glass was originally intended to join the roster on July 11, 2022, but will now be available to stream on Disney+ beginning August 28, 2020.

Disney’s ‘Atlantis: The Lost Empire’ Director Shares the Film was Supposed to Get a Sequel in Theaters. As 3D animation quality improved rapidly between the 90’s, 00’s and 10’s the fight for 2D animated films to stay relevant and exciting caused several fantastic stories to be overshadowed by films featuring the latest in animation techniques. Though we thoroughly enjoy 3D animated films, there is just something about 2D animation that helps us to remember a simpler time and see the talent and effort the ink and paint artists had to give in order to bring us unforgettable stories. Authors Note: We LOVE our VFX and CGI artists out there, and your work is absolutely incredible, but we gotta give our favorite 2D animated films some love here!
One such 2D animated film from Walt Disney Studios is Atlantis: The Lost Empire. The film has been a fan favorite for nearly two decades now and with the surge in animated film remakes by Disney, it has easily climbed to the top of the “most wanted remakes” list. Many fans believe the film was not given enough credit and claim it was at an instant disadvantage when it premiered in theaters alongside the highly anticipated films Shrek (Dreamworks) and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (Paramount Pictures).
Had the movie been a box office success it is more than likely we would have seen a full fledged sequel premiere in theaters. Actually it’s more than likely. We WOULD have seen a sequel in theaters, at least according to the films director Kirk Wise. Kirk shared that not only was the film intended to get a sequel, but Disney had gotten so far as to create an outline and storyboard for the shelved sequel.
“Believe it or not we did,” Wise revealed. “[Story supervisor] John Sanford, Gary and I actually concocted an idea for a sequel to Atlantis. It had no relation to the Atlantis TV series that was being developed at Disney Television Animation. This was a feature-length, full-on, full-blown sequel to Atlantis.”
“We were going to have a new villain in the story. The villain was going to be wearing big, scary, wool, bulky, World War I-style clothing with a frightening gasmask to obscure it’s face; a little Darth Vader-esque,” Wise continued. “And this villain was going to try and retake Atlantis and finish the job that Rourke was unable to accomplish. And the big twist in the climax of the movie is that the villain is unmasked and it turns out to be Helga Sinclair. Plot twist!”
You may be asking yourself, “Now wait a minute, didn’t she die in the first film?” The short answer is No, we never actually see Helga Sinclair die on screen. It’s just assumed she would have either succumbed to her injuries from her fall or to the lava flow when the volcano erupted. But according to Kirk’s statement, Helga miraculously survived the whole ordeal!
Instead, Disney created a direct-to-video sequel called “Atlantis: Milo’s Return”. In this animated sequel to “Atlantis: The Lost Empire,” the discoverer of the submerged continent, Milo, and his new wife, Queen Kida, are startled when friends led by explorer Preston tell them that the monsters meant to protect their land are causing destruction on the surface. Milo travels with Preston and his crew to Iceland, Arizona and Norway to stop the havoc, while Kida considers having Atlantis make contact with the outside world.
Though the sequel’s performance was subpar, the story wasn’t nearly as bad as the degraded animation quality made it appear. It seems the intended sequel storyline by Kirk and Gary would have made the audience more invested in the continuing story, but such is life.
Atlantis: The Lost Empire fans have been waiting patiently to hear from Disney about the rumors circulating that they are developing a live-action remake of the 2001 animated film. The claim has gone so far as to share that the studio is reportedly looking to cast Tom Holland as Milo Thatch.
My two cents on the matter, IF Disney does decide to do an Atlantis: The Lost Empire live-action film I actually would love to see it turn into a trilogy. There are so many avenues to explore and stories to be told about the lost city of Atlantis and the thematic elements would be spectacular in theaters. I mean come on, those crystal necklaces and the journal from the film practically sell themselves, Disney.

An official announcement has yet to be made by Disney regarding a live-action remake, but if the project does get the green light what are some of the casting choices you would like to see for the live-action film? Would you rather see a live-action remake or a full fledged animated sequel in theaters? We would love for you to share your ideas and thoughts in the comments.

Hercules to Make First MCU Appearance in Upcoming Marvel Film. According to The Cinema Spot, another long standing Marvel hero is on the way! Hercules is rumored to make his first Marvel Cinematic Universe appearance in Marvel Studios’ Eternals.
No, we are not talking about the Disney animated style Hercules we all know and love. This would be the Hercules featured in the Marvel Comics for nearly 60 years!
Hercules first Marvel appearance was in Avengers #10 in 1964. In the Marvel Comics, Hercules is the son of Zeus, king of the gods of Olympus, and Alcmena, a mortal woman who lived about three thousand years ago. Recognizing the need for a son who would be powerful enough to defend both the Olympian gods and humanity from future dangers he foresaw, Zeus seduced Alcmena in the guise of her husband, King Amphitryon of Troezen. Thanks to Zeus’s enchantment, Hercules was born with the potential for extraordinary strength, which he first displayed before he was even one year old by strangling two serpents which attacked him. As an adult, Hercules is best known for his celebrated Twelve Labors, which were performed in part to prove his worthiness for immortality to Zeus.
The character is frequently featured with other Olympian characters, Thor, The Avengers, as well as The Eternals, which means Hercules’ introduction in the new Eternals movie is the most natural choice for his first MCU appearance.
It is currently unknown if Hercules will play a major role in the film or if he will simply be introduced in a post credit scene. It is also rumored that Hercules may make his way to one of the new Marvel Disney+ series such as Loki or She-Hulk depending on the storylines for the shows.
Eternals is set to premiere in theaters on February 12, 2021. Be sure to check back here at Chip and Co. for all things Marvel!
Rumored: Marvel Studios and Sony Have Reached a New ‘Spider-Man’ Deal. Marvel Fans have been waiting to hear about the fate of one of the most iconic Marvel Superheroes, Spider-Man. For a time, it appeared negotiations had gone sour between Disney and Sony regarding the use of Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and it was feared that we had seen the last of the web slinging hero after the release of Spider-Man: Far From Home.
It seems we will hear about an update soon that is bound to make Marvel fans very happy, at least according to Marvel insider, Roger Wardell, who shared the news via Twitter stating, “Disney understands the money-making powers of Spider-Man while Sony is aware of being completely unable to compete with the Mouse at the moment. New agreement should please many Marvel fans.”
Disney understands the money-making powers of Spider-Man while Sony is aware of being completely unable to compete with the Mouse at the moment. New agreement should please many Marvel fans.
After public outcry from fans, and some intervention from Tom Holland aka Spider-Man himself, Disney and Sony agreed to renegotiate their terms and it seems the studios may have finally reached a new agreement regarding Spidey’s future that benefit the fans and the partnering studios.
“I am thrilled that Spidey’s journey in the MCU will continue, and I and all of us at Marvel Studios are very excited that we get to keep working on it,” shared Marvel Studios CCO Kevin Feige. “Spider-Man is a powerful icon and hero whose story crosses all ages and audiences around the globe. He also happens to be the only hero with the superpower to cross cinematic universes, so as Sony continues to develop their own Spidey-verse you never know what surprises the future might hold.”
The final installment in the Spider-Man Trilogy is currently set to swing into theaters July 16, 2021, but the films release may be delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Be sure to check back here at Chip and Company for all things Marvel!

Filming for the ‘Avatar’ Sequels has Resumed in New Zealand. Recently, New Zealand approved the resumption of filming for various film studios including the studio housing the filming for the Avatar sequels which are being filmed simultaneously.
The news comes from Producer, Jon Landau, who shared a photo of himself and director James Cameron on the tarmac at Wellington International Airport in New Zealand.
A post shared by Jon Landau (@jonplandau) on May 30, 2020 at 6:08pm PDT
As we previously shared, the Avatar sequels are being film simultaneously in an unprecedented manor that is rather un heard of in the film industry. Director James Cameron has confirmed they have finished filming for Avatar 2 and are currently working on filming for Avatar 3-5. Despite production on set being shut down, many VFX artists were still hard at work on the films, so there is little chance of a delay in the films release in December 2021.
We are very excited to see filming resume on the Avatar sequels and can’t wait for more photos and insight into the filmmaking process. Be sure to check back here at Chip and Co. for updates and all things Disney!
Josh Gad Says His Kids Are Over Olaf from ‘Frozen’. Recently, Josh Gad appeared virtually on The Graham Norton Show and discussed the work he is doing while in quarantine and shared that he has a giant promotional Olaf statue from a movie theater and doesn’t have the heart to get rid of it.
Gad also talked about the fact that his daughters are over Olaf and are much more interested in Moana rather than Anna and Elsa. Also joking that they should be more appreciative because the role of Olaf has helped awarded them the lifestyle they are now used to.
You can watch the clip of Josh’s conversation with Graham Norton in the video shared below:
We love that Josh keeps reminders of his work around his office and has been working hard to keep audiences entertained during this uncertain time in our world.
Between reading bedtime stories on weeknights to help kids sleep, recording Olaf shorts from home to share with fans, and preparing for his busy future film schedule, Josh has been juggling all his tasks and still manages to make appearance on talk shows and appearances in the Disney Family Singalongs! Whew, don’t forget to take a break once in a while Josh!
We can’t wait to see what’s in store for Josh Gad, especially with Disney, but in the meantime it’s great to see how dedicated he is to his fans. Be sure to check back here at Chip and Co. for all things Disney.
J.K. Simmons Under Contract to Return in Future Spider-Man Films as J. Jonah Jameson. Recently, J.K. Simmons spoke with PeopleTV about his reappearance as J. Jonah Jameson at the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home and if fans can expect to see him in the next Spider-Man film.
“I don’t know if I would use the word expect,” Simmons replied. “When we signed on for the first movie we signed a contract to do two sequels as well. Which, that’s always a one-sided, well not always but in my case, a one-sided contract where you’re committed to do it, but they’re not necessarily committed to use your character in the ensuing movies. It was great to have the opportunity as these things evolve to be one of the holdovers from the previous version.”
To keep interest in the franchise going and to celebrate the release of Spider-Man: Far From Home on Digital and with the DVD/Blu-ray, Sony Pictures created a “real life” The Daily Bugle, in the form of an online network called: thedailybugle.net. The fully functioning website shares a special video from none other than J. Jonah Jameson himself, J.K. Simmons, sharing his take on Spider-Man and Mysterio.
The website also features stories based on the incidents in Spider-Man: Far From Home, including articles about Night Monkey, the missing Hydro-Man, and even the recent “raid” on Area 51. (Yes, really)
J. K. Simmons reprised his role as J. Jonah Jameson from the original Spider-Man trilogy starring Toby Maguire and Kristen Dunst for Spider-Man: Far From Home and appeared at the end of the film to tell the world a great BIG twisted secret. The identity of Spider-Man!
You can check out the intro video of J. Jonah Jameson’s first installment on thedailybugle.net below:

Hugh Jackman Trolls Ryan Reynolds With Kids Birthday Theme. Any fans of the dynamic duo Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds know that the famous best buddies love jabbing one another in internet videos and have hosted a friendly “feud” over the years on social media.
It seems this time Hugh Jackman is taking the first jab after a Marvel fan named Sam enjoyed his 8th birthday themed around Deadpool and Wolverine, the characters portrayed by Jackman and Reynolds in the previously Fox owned Marvel titles.
Hugh Jackman shared the story of Sam in a recent tweet followed by the caption: “Sam celebrated his 8th birthday with dueling #Wolverine and #Deadpool cakes. I think it’s crystal clear won. Don’t you?”
From the photo, it appears Sam is ever so slightly a bigger fan of Wolverine, donning the iconic grimace and stance of Wolverine with claws drawn. Hence, the reason Jackman shared the photo. Currently, Ryan Reynolds has yet to comment on the tweet, but we all know a snarky comment or response can’t be far behind.
Regardless of what Ryan has to say, I’m sure Sam’s birthday was made by the acknowledgement from one of his favorite heroes and we hope he had fun celebrating his 8th birthday. Be sure to check back here at Chip and Co. for all things Marvel!
Chris Evans Confirms He Will No Longer Play Captain America in the MCU. Recently, Chris Evans appeared on The Graham Norton Show and shared his time as Steve Rogers/Captain America is at an end. His primary reason being he doesn’t want to sour Cap’s “Happily Ever After” ending unless the appearance would add to his story in a constructive way.
When specifically asked if Avengers: Endgame was truly the end Evans responded, “Yes, I think it is,” Evans said. “It was a great run and we went out on such a high note that it would be risky to revisit it in my opinion. It was such a good experience and I think it’s better left that way.”
“It’d be a shame to sour that,” he said in reference to how Steve’s story wrapped up in Endgame. “I’m very protective of it. It was such a precious time, and jumping onto the movie was a terrifying prospect to me. I said no a bunch of times, and there’s a million and one ways it could have gone wrong. It almost feels like maybe we should let this one sit.”
As much as we will miss seeing Captain America on the big screen we are glad to know the character means more than a cash grab to Chris Evans and great care was given to do the character justice in the MCU. Which Marvel Movie featuring Captain America is your favorite? We would love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
