#DisneyCastLife: Meet Some of Our Cast’s Canines

Just like Mickey Mouse and Pluto are a dynamic duo, so are our cast members and their four-legged friends! In celebration of International Dog Day, get to know some of our cast members and their canine companions.

#DisneyCastLife: Meet Some of Our Cast’s Canines Megan Haug, Digital Producer and Linux

Megan Haug, Digital Producer and Linux
“Linux is a very special puppy with a purpose –– he’s currently training to be a Guide Dog for someone who is visually impaired. I am a puppy raiser through Guide Dogs of America, which means that I have been working with Linux since he was eight weeks old. Taking Linux to Disneyland was an incredible experience; it’s a great opportunity to see all of the work we’ve been doing pay off. He’s been training very hard over the past year and is the happiest dog I’ve ever met. One day Linux will change someone’s life and raising Linus has forever changed mine.”

Chelsea Auburn, Senior Associate, Alliance Management and Luna
“Our sweet Luna loves showing off her Disney side with her countless accessories! She has a lot but her favorites are probably her princess leash, Minnie harness and rose gold ears to match mine. I’m a sucker for anything Disney-themed for Luna (and myself!) so when I saw they were coming out with matching spirit jerseys, I knew I had to get them for us.”

#DisneyCastLife: Meet Some of Our Cast’s Canines Marie and David Romero, Software Developer, dog Jasmine

David Romero, Software Developer, and Jasmine
“Jasmine is a seven-year-old Golden Retriever, and she is an amazing service dog as well! Jasmine is a post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) dog, which means that she was trained to detect a pheromone that my body produces when I am in distress. She’s a really big Disney fan as well. She has also posed for pics with just about every character, although she is not a fan of Marie…”

#DisneyCastLife: Meet Some of Our Cast’s Canines Katie Erickson, Director, Costuming, Walt Disney World and Disney Cruise Line and Murphy

Katie Erickson, Director, Costuming, Walt Disney World and Disney Cruise Line and Murphy
“Murphy is my diabetic alert dog; he’s an amazing creature that loves and protects me. Prior to working with Murphy, I never told anyone I had Type 1 Diabetes, but because of his vest, Guests and fellow Cast Members alike share their Diabetes stories with me now and I’ve found a new voice as an advocate both at Disney and in the community. When his vest is on, Murphy is all business, but when his vest is off, he loves to snuggle, prefers to be carried on my hip like a toddler and will chase and fetch balls for hours. He also loves to go boating and to the beach!”

Frank Reifsnyder, Sr. Manager, Global Publicity, Disney Parks Experiences and Products and Loki
“Our 1-year-old Chorgi (half Chihuahua, half Corgi) is a huge Disney fan. He was named after Loki, and loves Mickey, Marvel and Star Wars. He loves to dress up as and play with Spider-Man and has even met Mickey at a Cast Member Halloween event last year (where Loki is dressed as a hot dog and we went as condiments).”

#DisneyCastLife: Meet Some of Our Cast’s Canines Tember Bower, Leader, Disney Reservations Center dog Luke

Tember Bower, Leader, Disney Reservations Center and Luke
“Shortly after my husband and I got married, we started our search for a puppy. Then Luke found us. His owner had found him caught in a fence and couldn’t afford the surgery he would need to survive, so they decided to put him down. The vet fell in love with his sweet personality and decided to do the surgery anyway, with the hopes that she could find him a loving home. After hearing his story, we decided to go meet him to see if he would be a right fit for us. When he hobbled over on his three legs to meet me and laid his head in my lap, I knew he was meant to be my boy. He is now five years old and he doesn’t even know that he’s missing a back leg. He runs and plays like any four-legged dog, and our family wouldn’t be complete without him!”

#DisneyCastLife: Meet Some of Our Cast’s Canines Shawn Becker, Disney Vacation Club Regulatory Affairs Specialist dogs Nani and Nala

Shawn Becker, Disney Vacation Club Regulatory Affairs Specialist, Nani and Nala
“I was just about to make the move to Orlando to start my second [Disney] College Program and thought a few extra friends for the journey might make the move easier. Little did I know how much this mother-daughter duo would end up meaning to me and helping me over the years and my career with the company. From the highs to the lows, to the attempts of dressing them up for Halloween, from working in the Parks, then Disney Vacation Club and now remotely in my home office, my girlies have been here for it all and I honestly don’t think I could have done any of this without them! I love them more than I could ever truly tell them and it raises that age old question of ‘Who rescued who?’”

#DisneyCastLife: Meet Some of Our Cast’s Canines

#DisneyMagicMoments: Positively Paw-some Pluto Styles from Around the World to Celebrate International Dog Day

Today is International Dog Day and we’re celebrating everyone’s favorite fido with a fur-bulous collection of positively paw-some Pluto styles – past and present – from Disney parks around the world!

Whether pouncing his way into hearts at Disneyland Resort, hotdogging in a giant teacup at Hong Kong Disneyland or chasing a day of snorkeling at Tokyo Disneyland Resort – everything is simply paw-tastic when Pluto is around.  So, to mark the day, we’ve dug up some Pluto magic for everyone at home.

Our celebration of one of the world’s most beloved Disney characters begins at Shanghai Disneyland Resort where his style is worthy of ap-paws.

#DisneyMagicMoments: Positively Paw-some Pluto Styles from Around the World to Celebrate International Dog Day Pluto at Hong Kong Disneyland

Mickey’s loyal pooch is a great fur-riend looking for fun. So, of course, hotdogging on a spinning teacup comes natural at Hong Kong Disneyland.

#DisneyMagicMoments: Positively Paw-some Pluto Styles from Around the World to Celebrate International Dog Day Pluto at Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa

With a super surfboard necklace, Pluto is ready to “hang ten” in a special moment captured in the tropical paradise of Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa in Hawai`i.

Pluto can also sniff out the best photo locations for a stylistic shot – like digging in right in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland Resort

And Pluto has a tail waggin’ good time at Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland Paris

#DisneyMagicMoments: Positively Paw-some Pluto Styles from Around the World to Celebrate International Dog Day Pluto on a Disney Cruise Line ship

Seafaring Pluto was stylishly decked out for a special role on board one of the Disney Cruise Line ships – with a paw-fect sailor’s hat!

#DisneyMagicMoments: Positively Paw-some Pluto Styles from Around the World to Celebrate International Dog Day Pluto in Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom Park

And during the dog days of summer at Walt Disney World Resort, Pluto is game to em-bark on a space adventure orbiting a galaxy of planets in Tomorrowland.

At Tokyo Disney Resort, Pluto sports his best snorkeling gear for a stylish dip in the water.

And a playful Pluto poses next to his favorite topiaries at Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort.

We hope you enjoyed our special celebration of Pluto style from around the world!  Be sure to check back for more of these types of stories on the Disney Parks Blog and follow along using hashtags #DisneyMagicMoments, #InternationalDogDay and #NationalDogDay.

9 Must Have Items From The 1988 Disney Spring/Summer Catalog

Today lets travel back to the magical year of 1988. Crocodile Dundee II is the fourth highest-grossing movie of the year. In music, Milli Vanilli releases their first single, Girl You Know It’s True. On the Disney side of things, the Disney Spring/Summer Catalog hits newsstands. While I’m almost 100% certain it’s not fondly remembered by anyone, there’s still some good stuff in here. Lets take a look at the must have items from the 1988 Disney Spring/Summer Catalog.

9 Must Have Items From The 1988 Disney Spring/Summer Catalog

This cover is great but doesn’t scream 1980s yet. It also shows what a frugal guy Mickey is. He has all the money in the world but will still stop and pick wild flowers for him and Minnie’s picnic date.

Before we move on lets take a look at the top right corner of the cover. Only Disney could have gotten away charging TWO DOLLARS for 23 page catalog! Adjusted for inflation that’s $4.38.9 Must Have Items From The 1988 Disney Spring/Summer Catalog

#9 Mickey Brass Outdoor Faucet – Price $34.95
9 Must Have Items From The 1988 Disney Spring/Summer Catalog

You don’t really see many licensed outdoor faucets these days (and believe me I’ve looked).

#8 Mickey Mouse Cutting Board – Price $24.95

9 Must Have Items From The 1988 Disney Spring/Summer Catalog

This probably makes the most sense out of any Disney product ever. I’m shocked they still don’t sell these things.
#7 and #6 Mickey Mouse AM Radio and Mickey Mouse Calculator – Price $12.95 and $11.95

9 Must Have Items From The 1988 Disney Spring/Summer Catalog

Look at that Mickey AM radio! It’s genius. But notice it just says AM, not AM/FM. What kid, even in the 80’s, would ever listen to AM radio?
True story about myself: I used to stay up late and listen to Coast to Coast AM using a Mickey radio similar to this when I was a kid and then proceed to have nightmares about all aliens Art Bell would talk about.
#5 Disney Home Videos (in VHS and BETA) – Price $14.95 to $74.95
9 Must Have Items From The 1988 Disney Spring/Summer Catalog
#4 and #3 Aerobic Wear and Mousercise Record or Tape – Price $16.95-$18.95 and $7.95
9 Must Have Items From The 1988 Disney Spring/Summer Catalog
Back in the 80’s it was mandatory that everyone who worked out must do so while looking like a total fool. That’s where this aerobic wear comes in. As for the Mousercise record, it contains classic songs such as “Ducks Dance Too.” You can view the infomercial on YouTube.
#2 and #1 Cool Mickey towel and kiddie pool – Price $17.95 and $28.95
9 Must Have Items From The 1988 Disney Spring/Summer Catalog
On the 80’s-ness scale of 1 to 10, that towel is an 11. As for the pool take a look at the boats on the side. It says Jungle Cruise!
What’s your favorite item from this list? Let me know in the comments below.

Disney Cruise Line News and Specials — Week of August 25, 2020

Sponsored by Storybook Destinations

Ahoy, mateys! I’m Heather, and I’ll be bringing you the up and coming on all things Disney Cruise Line. Welcome back again this week. Let’s see what’s new in the DCL world!

What’s New

As cruising resumes in select locations around the world, it’s hard not to watch with both a hopeful yet watchful eye, to see what might be in store for us once the Disney fleet is back in the water. Thus brings this recent cautionary tale: guests on an MSC ship in the Mediterranean committed a big no-no, and they paid the price! The family was booked on an official MSC port excursion in Naples, but they chose to leave the group to explore on their own. Sounds okay, right? Nope. When they returned to the ship, they were denied boarding for disregarding the rule that guests must stay with the guided group at all times.

MSC mandates that all guests who wish to explore the ports of call must do so only with an official port excursion; this is being done to maintain a “bubble” to help reduce risk and contact. So we can’t help but wonder if this model will make it’s way to other cruise lines once they resume sailing. And, if it does, would it change the way you do things? Would you embrace DCL-only excursions? Would you be more likely to stay onboard? Or maybe even wait until you’re able to explore on your own once again? Tell me your thoughts in the comments!

Moving along a similar wavelength, it looks like Disney is prepping to lure guests back to the Bahamas. DCL recently struck a deal to bring guests on an exclusive port adventure to Pearl Island. White sand beaches and stunning blue waters in a private setting just a hop, skip, and ferry from the Nassau pier? I know I am all in!

Weekly Specials

Most every week of the year, Disney Cruise Line releases special offers for Florida Residents and U.S. Military Personnel.  There are also frequently IGT/OGT/VGT rates available for all guests to book.  These offers are extremely limited in availability, and all come with certain restrictions, but the prices are amazing! You can book these online, on the phone, or with your travel agent. These are the current offers available this week:
