Everything You Need to Know About The Magic Carpets of Aladdin

You’re going on vacation to Walt Disney World! The only problem? You’re not sure which attractions are right for you and your kiddos and you have questions. Which attractions are too intense for little ones? What rides do I really need a FastPass+ reservation for? What’s the disability access like for certain attractions? We’re answering all those questions and more in our Everything You Need to Know attraction series with today’s focus on the Magic Carpets of Aladdin at the Magic Kingdom.

What is The Magic Carpets of Aladdin?

Everything You Need to Know About The Magic Carpets of Aladdin The Magic Carpets of Aladdin is a spinner attraction in the style of Dumbo the Flying Elephant. However, this attraction accommodates two rows as opposed to one and not only moves up and down, but also tips forwards and backwards.

Where is The Magic Carpets of Aladdin?

The Magic Carpets of Aladdin is located at the Magic Kingdom’s Adventureland in front of Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room and Aloha Isle.

What is the History of The Magic Carpets of Aladdin?

Everything You Need to Know About The Magic Carpets of Aladdin The Magic Carpets of Aladdin opened to guests on May 23, 2001, and was the first new attraction in Adventureland since Pirates of the Caribbean was added to the park in 1973. Imagineers also transformed the adjacent area to resemble a marketplace from Agrabah.

The attraction’s two spitting camels didn’t always call Adventureland home. They were originally part of Aladdin’s Royal Caravan parade which ran from 1992 through 1995 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, then known as Disney – MGM Studios. After that, they were then placed outside the park’s Soundstage Restaurant before moving to the Magic Kingdom.

What You Need to Know About the Queue

There isn’t much of a queue here. Guests line up around the outside of the attraction where there is some canopy cover from the sun.

What You Need to Know About the Ride Vehicles

Everything You Need to Know About The Magic Carpets of Aladdin Guests ride in magic carpets that offer two rows with 2 to 3 guests per row. Two average-size adults or one adult plus two small children will fit comfortably in each row. Cast members may seat two adults and one child in a row, which can be tight.

Guests sit on a hard bench with a back. Guests will need to step up over a wall and then down into the vehicle. There is one fabric lap belt for all guests in a row. The row access area is open while the vehicle is in motion. Children should be seated to the inside of each row.

Those sitting in the front row can move the carpet up and down with a lever. Those sitting in the back row press a scarab to tip the carpet forward or backward. Before riding with kids, be sure to work out who should sit where in advance.

What You Need to Know About the Experience

The Magic Carpets of Aladdin lasts about a minute and a half. Those riding in the front control their carpet’s up and down motion while those in the second row control tipping forward or back.

Unlike Dumbo the Flying Elephant, there is a gold camel that spits water on guests! To avoid getting wet, riders will need to maneuver their carpet accordingly!

What You Need to Know About Accessibility

Guests must transfer to a standard wheelchair for The Magic Carpets of Aladdin. There is one wheelchair-capable vehicle.

What You Need to Know About Health and Safety Advisories

There are no health or safety advisories for The Magic Carpets of Aladdin. However, some guests who are prone to motion sickness or who are uncomfortable with heights may want to sit this one out.

What are the Height Restrictions?

There is no height requirement for the Magic Carpets of Aladdin!

Does The Magic Carpets of Aladdin Offer FastPass+?

This attraction does offer FastPass+, but it’s rarely needed.  NOTE: FastPass+ is currently suspended at Walt Disney World as of summer 2020.

Does Weather Affect The Magic Carpets of Aladdin?

Everything You Need to Know About The Magic Carpets of Aladdin A June storm pops over World Drive as a rainy afternoon gets started.

Yes. Since The Magic Carpets of Aladdin is an outdoor attraction, inclement weather will affect its operation.

What’s the Best Time of Day to Experience The Magic Carpets of Aladdin?

Due to this attraction’s slow loading time, try to ride within the park’s first 30 minutes of operation or just before the park closes for the day.

Check out the recipe and Ava’s video below.
