PHOTOS: COVID-19 Safety Precautions Throughout Bay Lake Tower and Disney’s Contemporary Resort

Usually the opening day of any attraction or resort is cause for celebration, full of excitement. Crowds can be expected anytime something new arrives at Walt Disney World. This time however, with the reopening of select Disney Vacation Club resorts and Disney’s Fort Wilderness Campground, there is some excitement, but it is certainly tempered with caution, and lack of crowds.

Our field research team spent the night at Disney’s Bay Lake Tower, and while returning to the resorts felt nice, it also felt very, very different. Certainly it is must quieter at the resorts than ever before, perhaps even quieter than immediately following September 11, 2001. Besides the lack of guests, the signage everywhere makes for a different experience.

Throughout Bay Lake Tower and Disney’s Contemporary Resort, there are signs about COVID-19 itself and the safety measures to take, such as maintaining six feet distance, washing hands often, wearing face coverings, and avoiding touching one’s face. There are also social distancing markers on the floor in the lobby areas, merchandise shops, and dining locations. Elevators require that one party ride at a time, or no more than four people. There are sanitizing wipes for disinfecting the elevator buttons.

This is a good ramp-up time for Disney Cast Members, as well as Disney guests, to get used to the “new normal”. (I’m sorry, I know we’re all sick of that phrase already.)

What do you think about the signage and other precautions?

Lin Manuel-Miranda Confirms He Is Working on a New Animated Disney Movie with ‘Zootopia’ Directors

Lin Manuel-Miranda Confirms He Is Working on a New Animated Disney Movie with ‘Zootopia’ Directors

Lin Manuel-Miranda Confirms He Is Working on a New Animated Disney Movie with ‘Zootopia’ Directors. First reported by The DisInsider, a now confirmed new project is underway at Walt Disney Studios and filmmakers from films such as Zootopia, Moana, Ralph Breaks the Internet and more are working together to make some Disney magic on screen.  The working project is currently being called ‘Encanto‘, which translates to Charm in English.

Previously it was believed the film would take place in Brazil, but in an interview with Good Morning America Lin Manuel-Miranda confirmed the film will actually take place in the neighboring country of Columbia. A tentative outline for the film follows a young girl and her family who live in Columbia. While her family members all have magical powers the young girl possesses no powers of her own.

Currently working on ‘Encanto‘ is composer Lin-Manuel Miranda (Mary Poppins Returns, Moana, Hamilton), with Clark Spencer (Ralph Breaks the Internet) and Yvett Merino Flores (Moana) who are producers for the project. Directors Byron Howard and Jared Bush (Zootopia) will work on the screenplay with Charise Castro Smith (The Haunting of House Hill).

When asked about the projects he is currently working on, Miranda shared, “I’m actually writing a new animated musical with Disney Animation. I’m collaborating with the Zootopia guys and Jared Bush, who wrote Moana with me. It’s set in Colombia, in Latin America and that’s all I can say before Bob Iger just shows up in my home.”

Manuel-Miranda also spoke about the highly anticipated premiere of Hamilton which will begin streaming on Disney+ July 3rd. Towards the end of the interview Lin also shared the news about the new animated feature film. You can watch the interview shared by Lin Manuel-Miranda in the Twitter post below:

We are very excited to see the premiere of Hamilton on Disney+ and to hear more about this new animated feature film. Be sure to check back here at Chip and Co. for updates and all things Disney!
