Cruise Lines Potentially Suspending Sailings Through Summer

Cruise Lines Potentially Suspending Sailings Through Summer cruise line

The Cruise Line International Association announced today that they are extending the suspension of cruise operations at U.S. ports until September 15, 2020. Disney Cruise Line is a member of the Cruise Line International Association (CLIA).

The CDC’s No Sail Order, which expires July 24, has not been extended as of now. Check out the official announcement from CLIA below:

“Due to the ongoing situation with the U.S. related to COVID-19, CLIA member cruise lines have decided to voluntarily extend the period of suspended passenger operations. The current No Sail Order issued by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will expired on 24 July, and although we had hoped that cruise activity could resume as soon as possible after that date, it is increasingly clear that more time will be needed to resolve barriers to resumption in the United States.

Although we are confident that future cruises will be healthy and safe, and will fully reflect the latest protective measures, we also feel that it is appropriate to err on the side of caution to help ensure the best interests of our passengers and crewmembers. We have therefore decided to further extend our suspension of operations from U.S. ports until 15 September. The additional time will also allow us to consult with the CDC on measures that will be appropriate for the eventual resumption of cruise operations.

This voluntary suspension applies to all CLIA members to which the No Sail Order applied (vessels with capacity to carry 250 persons or more). CLIA member cruise lines will continually evaluate the evolving situation and make a determination as to whether a further extension is necessary.”

As of today, Disney Cruise Line has canceled sailings in Europe through October 2, in Canada through September 2, and all other itineraries through July 17. We expect DCL to announce more cancelations soon.

Here’s How You’ll Interact With the Characters When Disney World Reopens!

Disney World isn’t even open yet, but the last few hours have sure been a crazy ride!

Here’s How You’ll Interact With the Characters When Disney World Reopens!

Big Thunder Mountain

And here’s the thing: now that the proverbial flood gates have opened, Disney World info seems to be gushing OUT! In addition to finding out Epcot’s Food and Wine Festival is now starting July 15th, MagicBands will no longer be given to resort guest for free next year, and Mickey’s-Not-So-Scary Halloween Party being canceled, even more details about Disney World’s attractions and entertainment have come spilling out!

Disney World has already informed us certain guest experiences will not be offered or will be modified including character meet and greets, parades, and fireworks when the parks reopen. Disney also just shared with us a big list of special events that are being canceled this morning.

Here’s How You’ll Interact With the Characters When Disney World Reopens!

Tangled Float

But Disney World has also made a few changes to the “Know Before You Go” section of its website today! In the edit, we spotted a few indications of what we’ll be seeing instead of parades and nighttime spectaculars!

Here’s How You’ll Interact With the Characters When Disney World Reopens!

Screenshot From Disney World’s Website

You read that right, folks!! Disney has just confirmed characters will VERY MUCH be present when the parks reopen! You’ll just be seeing them in a different format than you may be used to!

Disney’s use of the word “cavalcade” reminds us of the Cursed Calvacade we’ve seen at Disney Villains After Dark parties or the Rainy Day Calvacade that gets dispatched on soggier days! This is a term Disney often uses for smaller parades at Magic Kingdom!

Here’s How You’ll Interact With the Characters When Disney World Reopens!

Rainy Day Cavalcade

But what’s this?? Disney also says characters will be sailing the waterways of Disney’s Animal Kingdom and proceeding along World Showcase promenade at EPCOT?! There will also be motorcades on Hollywood Boulevard at Disney’s Hollywood Studios?! Umm, yeah…it looks like Disney World is promising there will still be a lot of excitement until their traditional offerings resume.

Here’s How You’ll Interact With the Characters When Disney World Reopens!

Hollywood Studios Before Closures

We’re going back over everything with a fine toothcomb right now to make sure we’ve told you about every new piece of information we’ve just found out today! Plus, we’re still scouring the interwebs for anything new, so stay tuned for more breaking news!

An Update On Disney Parks From Chief Medical Officer Dr. Pamela Hymel

An Update On Disney Parks From Chief Medical Officer Dr. Pamela Hymel Disney Parks  As the Disney Parks get closer to the reopening date, we have an updated message from Dr. Pamela Hymel.

Dear Guests,

“As we continue with the phased reopening of Disney locations around the world, i wanted to update you on our plans and the principles that guide us as we welcome guests back to the magic.

Josh D’Amaro, our Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products, said it best when he spoke about the trust you have in the Disney brand. As we prepare for the reopening of our destinations, this is a responsibility we take very seriously. We know what a privilege it is to continue to earn your trust every day.

Our domestic theme parks were among the first to close earlier this year and they will be among the last to reopen when guests return in July in California, pending state and local government approvals, and in Florida. Disney parks have always been places for families to gather, to celebrate important moments in their lives, and to make memories that will last a lifetime. This legacy of integrity, care, and community is what guides us as we prepare for the return of our cast members and guest.”

This is what you can expect once the Disney Parks reopen in July:

  • Reducing capacity
  • Temperature checks for guests prior to entering the theme parks
  • Increasing cleaning and disinfecting (specially high traffic areas)
  • Adjusting experiences to accommodate physical distancing
  • Requiring face coverings for guests 2 and older
  • Empowering guests with options like contactless payments
  • Easy access to hand washing and hand sanitizer locations

For Cast Members:

  • Increasing the frequency of cleaning in work areas
  • Adjusting work practices to promote physical distancing
  • Requiring temperature checks and face coverings
  • Additional training on new measures and importance of personal health best practices like hand washing and covering coughs
  • Staying home when ill

Promote Safety Together

It’s very important to remember that many of the actions we all take in our daily lives to help reduce the risk of spread of COVID-19 are designed to help protect not only ourselves but others as well.

So when you follow the measures implemented at Disney Parks, you are helping everyone have a magical experience!

At the parks, Cast Members will be available to explain the new procedures and answer any questions guests may have. A new health and safety campaign featuring The Incredibles will also be available to remind you of the healthy measure that must be taken during your visit.

The Magic Returns

During this first reopening phase, things at Walt Disney World and Disneyland will look a bit different, starting with the new reservation system.

You can look more into it here. You will now have to make a reservation for the date you want to visit the park and park hopping will be temporarily unavailable.

We hope this information was helpful and you have a magical welcome back to Disney in July!
