Virtual Movie Night: Hamilton Premiere

Unless you’ve been socially distancing under a rock (which, you know, might not be the worst thing in the world when you think about it…), you’ve probably heard that Hamilton is coming to Disney+ this week. By popular request, that will be the showing for this week’s Friday Virtual Movie Night. It is a live stage production of the Broadway musical “Hamilton”, about America’s favorite Secretary of the Treasury, Alexander Hamilton. (Sorry, Salmon P. Chase.)

Please note that this is only available on Disney+, and that we’ll start on Friday at 7 p.m. ET (as it is a lengthy production). And although it is highly discouraged to chat on your phone while on Broadway, there’s no restrictions about chatting when watching from home. Want to join in the conversation? Head over to Lines chat. We’ll see you there.

Abigail Disney Voices Opinion on Walt Disney World Reopening

With the phased reopening of Walt Disney World only days away, many folks are unsure about the necessity of the parks opening back up due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases.

One of these skeptics includes Abigail Disney, granddaughter of Roy O. Disney (the co-founder of The Walt Disney Company). Abigail went to Twitter to share her skepticism, writing: “Somehow opening is OK in Fla, but not in CA? What’s the difference? Very different governors is all I can think of. I can’t speak for what’s happening behind the scenes in CA, but Fla’s gov is, how shall I put this, more “pro-business” than Ca’s I guess.”

Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure had plans to reopen on July 17, though now the reopening is currently delayed indefinitely. The State of California will issue theme park reopening guidelines sometime after July 4. California’s Downtown Disney‘s plans to reopen on July 9, however, currently remain unaffected.

Walt Disney World still plans to reopen on July 11 with Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom and July 15 with Epcot and Hollywood Studios. Cast Member Previews are set for July 7-8 and July 13-14 while Annual Passholder Previews will be held on July 9-10.

Hamilton Cast to reunite for behind the scenes documentary Hamilton

The smash hit Broadway show, Hamilton, is getting a behind-the-scenes documentary that will reunite the original Broadway cast to discuss the legacy of the show productions. The documentary will premiere Friday alongside the filmed recording of the Broadway show. Hamilton In-Depth With Kelley Carter will discuss the origins of the groundbreaking show while talking in-depth with its stars and creators. If you enjoy watching Hamilton on Disney+, then be sure to check out this documentary afterwards!

Hamilton Cast to reunite for behind the scenes documentary

The Walt Disney Company, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Jeffrey Seller and Thomas Kail are pleased to announce that Disney+ will fast track the premiere of the filmed version of the original Broadway production of “Hamilton,” bringing the 11-time-Tony Award®-, GRAMMY Award®-, Olivier Award- and Pulitzer Prize-winning stage musical to homes around the world on July 3, 2020.

Producers for “Hamilton,” the film of the original Broadway production, include Miranda, Seller, and Kail, who also directs.

The film is a leap forward in the art of “live capture” which transports its audience into the world of the Broadway show in a uniquely intimate way. Combining the best elements of live theater, film, and streaming, the result is a cinematic stage performance that is a wholly new way to experience “Hamilton.”

Actors’ Equity Association Rejects Safety Plan for Walt Disney World Performers

Actors’ Equity Association Rejects Safety Plan for Walt Disney World Performers

The phased reopening of Walt Disney World will begin on July 11 with Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom, and July 15 for Epcot and Hollywood Studios, with Cast Member and Annual Passholder Previews beforehand. With these dates steadily approaching, many Cast Members are being called back to work.

However, the executive committee of Actors’ Equity Association does not approve of Walt Disney World’s employee safety plan for reopening due to one major detail- Disney’s plan doesn’t include COVID-19 testing for performers. According to Deadline, the Actors’ Equity Association members received an email explaining the situation: ““Disney knows that testing makes for a safer work place. Why else would Disney agree to testing for film productions? If testing helps keep a film set safe, that is also true for performers in the parks. Despite that, we have not reached an agreement with Disney for testing.”

Actors’ Equity Association Rejects Safety Plan for Walt Disney World Performers

The Actors’ Equity Association had insisted last week that testing would be “a fundamental part of maintaining a safe and healthy environment for everyone, from the guests to the cast.”

Mary McColl, executive director of Actors’ Equity Association, described the situation further: “It is deeply disturbing that while coronavirus cases in Florida surge, Disney is refusing to provide regular testing to one of the few groups of workers in the park who by the very nature of their jobs, cannot use personal protective equipment. Now is the time for Disney to pause, focus on the science and put the safety of their actors and stage managers first by making regular testing available.”

According to Deadline, the recommendation for testing comes from a knowledgable source- Dr. David Michaels, the former director of OSHA himself. Dr. Michaels was recruited by Equity this spring to advise the union on health and safety protocols during the pandemic.

Walt Disney World will instill many other safety protocols when the parks reopen to keep guests and Cast Members safe, including enhanced cleaning, social distancing markings, and possible temperature checks.

New Mickey Mouse Denim Loungefly Backpack Finally Arrives to Disney Springs

Back in February, Disney debuted a collection of denim apparel that gave me flashbacks to the 1990s. Now, a denim Mickey Mouse Loungefly backpack has arrived to Disney Springs, six months later.

The base is a light blue denim material and there is a pattern with Mickey Mouse’s profile in black and white, with a touch of red for his mouth. The zipper and straps are black. This Loungefly backpack is priced at $75.00, and does not appear to be available at this time on shopDisney online.

What do you think of this style?
