News: Disney World’s Rise of the Resistance Reportedly Won’t Use Boarding Groups At Reopening

It’s been quite the day so far with exciting news coming out of Disney World. For those itching to get back to Galaxy’s Edge when Disney’s Hollywood Studios reopens in Disney World on July 15, they may be happy to know that many of the major attractions and shops will be open.

And yep — the reopening list includes the fan favorite Rise of the Resistance! This attraction has been the must-ride choice since it opened in August of 2019.

But we’re also getting word of another MAJOR development that will change the way we’ve come to experience “getting in line” for this ride!

We just confirmed via the Disney World website chat system that Disney World will not use any virtual queues (i.e lines for rides that are managed digitally, so you “join” them from a smartphone app). This was a possibility we had discussed in the past, and we know now that it looks like only standby (regular, good ol’ ride lines) will be available for Disney World’s rides and attractions.

Further, reporter Scott Gustin confirmed that this mandate includes Rise of the Resistance.

NEW: Disney has told Cast Members there will be no virtual queues used for attractions when parks reopen. This includes Rise of the Resistance. Single rider lines will also not be utilized.

This information has not been posted online (yet) but Cast Members have been informed.

— Scott Gustin (@ScottGustin) June 20, 2020

That’s right, as of right now (things change ALL the time, however) if you want to join forces with the Resistance and take on the First Order, it sounds like your ONLY option will be a traditional standby queue. In addition to no virtual queues, there will be no Single Rider lines at any attractions, and the entire FastPass+ system has been temporarily suspended for the time being).

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance

Rise of the Resistance was a major development in virtual queueing for Disney World. When the attraction first opened, guests had to join a Boarding Group, assigned at random, via the My Disney Experience app on their smartphones.

Due to the immense popularity of the ride, these Boarding Groups were snatched up FAST. And anyone who wanted to ride essentially needed to be INSIDE the park gates before the official opening time to have a chance at riding!

Now, it looks as though anyone in Disney’s Hollywood Studios each day will have an equal shot to ride via standby queue. But to get the best chance to ride without too long a queue, you’ll want to arrive as EARLY as possible! May the force be with you!

Have you been on Rise of the Resistance yet? What do you think of folks only being able to wait in a standby queue for this attraction? Let us know in the comments!

Disney Quietly Adds Fantastic Four to Disney+ Roster

Disney Quietly Adds Fantastic Four to Disney+ Roster

Disney Quietly Adds Fantastic Four to Disney+ Roster. Since the acquisition of Fox by Disney, many fans have wondered when Disney would begin streaming Fox titles on their new streaming service, Disney+. Some of the most anticipated films include the Fox created Marvel movies such as the X-Men films yet others like the Deadpool films have been deemed inappropriate for the streaming service. Though most of the X-Men films are currently streaming via HBO and HBO Max, Disney did quietly add Fantastic Four (2015) to the Disney+ library this week.

The synopsis for the film share on Disney+ states, “A young genius builds a portal to another dimension with help from friends and colleagues but an accident leaves one stranded and the others altered with unusual powers Four years later, the stranded victor returns as a megalomaniacal conqueror and the others must put aside their differences to stop him as the Fantastic Four.”

The movie is a surprise addition to the Disney+ roster and only received a minor announcement via the “New to Disney+” category on the Disney+ home page. Very few featured films have slipped through announcements before being surprisingly added to the streaming service and though it performed poorly in theaters it’s still an interesting take on the iconic characters from the Marvel Comics.

In a recent interview, actor John Krasinski shared that he would love to play Reed Richards for Marvel Studios. More recent designs of Reed Richards within the comics are looking very twin like to The Quiet Place and The Office actor. Rumors spread like wildfire that he was already cast in the role without auditioning after it was revealed Krasinski’s wife, Emily Blunt, was approached by representatives from Marvel Studios while on set for Disney’s The Jungle Cruise, with news spreading that Emily and John were offered the roles of Reed Richards and Sue Storm for the remake of Fantastic Four that would be the first F4 movie tied to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Neither Disney nor Marvel has yet to confirm any of these rumors, but it seems that Krasinski and Blunt seem rather rehearsed in their responses to questions about the potential casting, and have refrained from answering Yes or No so far… Both actors seem eager to work with Marvel Studios, especially after Krasinski came VERY close to playing Captain America in the MCU, previously, and Blunt being very active with Walt Disney Studios with Mary Poppins Returns and The Jungle Cruise.

And while we’ve known a new reservation system has been in the works for some time to help manage attendance levels, we suspected Disney World might also implement new virtual queues for its rides to aid in reducing crowds.BUT, that no longer seems to be the case.

Theme park reporter Scott Gustin first reported that Disney had begun informing Cast Members that virtual queues would NOT be used by ANY of the attractions at Disney World when the theme parks reopen. This INCLUDES Rise of the Resistance in Hollywood Studios.

We reached out to a Disney Cast Member and were able to confirm that virtual queues will not be used for attractions upon reopening.

Morimoto Asia Has Some Great Appetizers Right Now

I stopped by Morimoto Asia earlier this week for a quick, light dinner.  It was fabulous, and because I’m out of practice writing food reviews, I thought I’d do this.

First things first: I saw nothing but 100% mask compliance throughout Disney Springs, including inside Morimoto Asia.  Inside the restaurant, guests were spaced very far apart – I’m guessing there was at least 10 feet between me and the next-closest party.  Also, menus are now provided via QR codes shown on tabletop cards.

Our first two appetizers were the Hamachi Tartare ($18) and a daily special of Grilled Octopus ($16).  The Hamachi Tartare is yellowtail with soy sauce, avocado, Japanese mayo, wasabi, shallot, chive, and (I think) a Japanese bayberry palate cleanser.  The yellowtail was fresh, smooth, and rich.  So rich, in fact, that it benefited from the soy sauce, challot, and chive.  That worked out well, since our server explained that the best way to eat the hamachi was to run your spoon across one side of the fish, then run the spoon across the accompaniments, getting a little bit of everything in each bite.

My favorite item of the evening was the Grilled Octopus ($16) which came with a potato emulsion and (I think – I’m clearly out of practice with food reviews) crispy onions, with a spicy aioli.  The octopus was perfect – tender, but with some texture, and a delicious smoky flavor.  If you’d told me it was some sort of exotic beef, I would’ve believed you.  The potato emulsion smoothed out the smoky flavor, the crunchy bits added different texture, and the aioli brought a tiny, tiny bit of heat.  At the risk of Disney accountants hearing this, I think this is a bargain at $16 – it’d be $24 at Tiffins, and not as good.

My dining companion went with the Stir-Fried Tofu Medley ($20) for her main course.  The tofu is flash-fried in a wok, with bok choi, broccolini, and bell pepper, then served with a sweet soy broth. The vegetables retained just the right amount of char flavor from the wok, and the sweet soy was light and everything that you’d want in a broth. The stir-fry came with a side of rice.

I went with two more appetizers for my main course.  The first was a simple miso soup ($9) with tofu and scallions.  Soup isn’t the first thing you think of when you’re in Florida and it’s 93 degrees outside, but I’ve been watching a lot of Japanese cooking videos, and I really wanted a cup.  This didn’t disappoint – the miso was flavorful, there was a ton of tofu, and the scallions were fresh and bright.  If you want a larger portion, a bowl of soup is $12.

The third appetizer I tried was the Shumai ($16). This is four steamed dumplings filled with pork, shrimp, and mushroom, and topped with tobiko (flying fish) caviar.  Each dumpling is about the size of a large marshmallow, and they’re served with a soy dipping sauce. These are very filling – I ate two of them and was perfectly happy – so consider splitting this two ways.

Morimoto Asia accepts Tables in Wonderland discounts. With one cocktail (Manhattan, $18) and 18% gratuity, the total was $102 for two people.

Part of what made this experience great was undoubtedly that it was good just to be in Disney Springs after more than three months away.  The kitchen at Morimoto Asia doesn’t seem to have missed a beat, though, as the food they’re putting out right now is both good, and a good value.  It’s good to see them back.
