In Case You Missed It: News and Rumors – Week of June 12, 2020

I am excited! This weekend, I am headed to Orlando and I’m going to get to experience Disney Springs and CityWalk (I am pretty sure I’ll also be heading to CityWalk) since both the destinations closed. Don’t worry! I plan to constantly wash my hands, keep properly distanced as best I can, and I’ve got my mask ready to go!

This week, find out what closure is really hitting me hard, see what new musical Disney has in the works, and more.

In Case You Missed It – Disney and Universal Orlando News and Rumors

The Walt Disney Company pledges $5 Million to support nonprofit organizations that advance social justice.

Comcast, which is part of NBCUniversal, will also be donating to fight injustice and inequality.

If you know anything about me, you know that the charity that I hold near and dear to my heart is Give Kids the World. This is the location where critically ill children get to visit when they request their Make a Wish trip. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, this facility is going to have to close indefinitely until things change and lay off most of their staff. My hope is that things can rebound quickly and this wonderful facility can go back to making kids wishes a reality once again here soon. You can learn more about Give Kids the World here.

I love this! Learn how to make adorable Winnie the Pooh themed letters for your child’s room!

In things I never thought I’d read news, apparently Disney may be working on a musical based on Lionel Richie called All Night Long. I can’t make this up.

Oh my gosh!!! We have “floating” coins for Super Nintendo World in Japan! This is gonna be such a cool experience when it opens in Orlando eventually.

Face Masks not Required in Orange County California but Recommended

Face Masks not Required in Orange County California but Recommended orange county

The Orange County Register is reporting that Orange County California is no longer requiring face masks to be worn in public. While masks are no longer required, they are still “strongly recommended”.

Orange County Health Care Agency Director Dr. Clayton Chau said that while he believes wearing cloth masks helps slow the spread of COVID-19, the county wanted to be consistent with state guidelines, which don’t mandate face coverings.

“This will give our business community and individuals the ability to make the most appropriate decision for them and their situation,” he said.

When asked about the rule change, Chau said, “This decision is not because of the public pushback on it and we are not taking the masks away. We strongly recommend that people wear masks.”

Masks are still required for workers who deal with the public like at grocery stores and gas stations.

While Disneyland announced their reopening plans, there’s been no word if guests will be required to wear masks while at the park.

Travelers Entering Florida from Connecticut, NJ, or NY must Self-Isolate for 14 days – Extended florida travel

Travelers from Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York who are wanting to visit the state of Florida must self-isolate for 14 days once they arrive in the state. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has extended the self-isolate order for travelers from those states.

This Executive Order does not apply to individuals involved in commercial activity and students traveling for the purpose of academic work, internships, sports training, and any other activity or program approved by the educational institution.

All persons isolating or quarantining will be responsible for all costs associated with their isolation or quarantine. This includes transportation, lodging, food, medical care, and any other expenses to sustain the individual during their period of isolation or quarantine.

Roadside checkpoints are set up on interstates to check for potential COVID-19 cases coming into Florida from areas with substantial community spread of the virus. The checkpoints do not apply to commercial drivers or health workers.

Extended in Executive Order 20-139, travelers entering the state of Florida from Connecticut, New Jersey, or New York must self-isolate for 14 days from their entry into Florida or the duration of their stay, whichever is shorter. Visit https://t.co/E7UM7vX9fk for more. pic.twitter.com/Kw806IOhZo

— Florida Dept. Health (@HealthyFla) June 11, 2020

There is no specific end date for this order so if you are wanting to travel to Florida, make sure you do some homework before planning your travel.
