Disney Cruise Line News — Week of May 19, 2020

Ahoy, mateys! I’m Heather, and I’ll be bringing you the up and coming on all things Disney Cruise Line. Welcome back again this week. Let’s see what’s new in the DCL world!

Cruise News

I know you REALLY missed a long bummer of a post about cancellations, didn’t you? Glad I am here to bring it back this week! Kidding aside, I’m truly sorry to anyone who’s had a cancelled trip during this time. We all know that there are many more pressing and important matters right now, but it’s still okay to be disappointed when the trip you’ve looked forward to is no longer!

The latest round of cancellations was a pretty big one. It extended the full shut down of the cruise line through July 28, across all four ships. Here’s a list of the newly cancelled cruises:

Disney Magic

  • July 13, 5-night Mediterranean
  • July 18, 7-night Western Europe
  • July 25, 11-night Northern Europe

Disney Wonder

  • July 6, 7-night Alaska
  • July 13, 7-night Alaska
  • July 20, 7-night Alaska
  • July 27, 7-night Alaska

Disney Dream

  • June 21, 5-night Bahamian
  • June 26, 5-night Bahamian
  • July 1, 4-night Bahamian
  • July 5, 5-night Bahamian
  • July 10, 3-night Bahamian
  • July 13, 4-night Bahamian
  • July 17, 3-night Bahamian
  • July 20, 4-night Bahamian
  • July 24, 3-night Bahamian
  • July 27, 4-night Bahamian

Disney Fantasy

  • June 20, 7-night Western Caribbean
  • June 27, 9-night Southern Caribbean
  • July 6, 5-night Western Caribbean
  • July 11, 7-night Eastern Caribbean
  • July 18, 7-night Western Caribbean
  • July 25, 7-night Eastern Caribbean

Compensation for these cancelled sailings was a bit different than we’ve seen previously. For guests who were paid in full, they were offered the option of a full refund, or a 125% Future Cruise Credit for a sailing within 15 months. Guests who were not paid in full, are being refunded for what they’ve paid so far, but there is no future cruise credit offer for these guests. It was pretty surprising to see this changeup, and one must wonder if this will be the new offer going forward as we anticipate further cancellations. Moral of the story? If you are hoping for that 125% FCC, you may want to seriously consider paying your reservation in full! I will not say it’s a foolproof strategy, fully realizing there are risks, so gamble at your own risk!

Got a question on the credit? We’ve got answers for you here!

If you are looking to book a new sailing, there’s a chunk of bookable dates that are now missing from the system. As of the time of this post, the next available dates to book per ship are:

Magic, October 12
Wonder, September 18
Dream, July 31
Fantasy, August 1

This does give me great pause when considering the fate of the European and Alaskan cruise season – perhaps the writing is on the wall already?

Now to change gears a bit, we do have some new DCL news, and it doesn’t involve the word cancel, huzzah! Yesterday, there was quite a shakeup in the leadership across the company. Thomas Mazloum is the new president of DCL, which falls under the umbrella of Disney Signature Experiences. He’s not new to the cruise line – he previously served as hotel director starting in 1998. Mazloum is replacing Jeff Vahle, who is keeping his leadership role, but this time for the Walt Disney World Resort.

The New Wall-E Loungefly Collection Is Out Of This World Fun

The Pixar robot pair we all know and love is blasting off into a new Loungefly collection very soon! The new Wall-E Loungefly Collection features a vibrant new backpack, and wristlet wallet inspired by the futuristic film. Both new pieces feature the famous plant that brought the robotic pair together too.

Wall-E Loungefly Collection

Wall-E Loungefly Collection

Backpack

WALL-E has a plant for you. He’ll carry it and your other gear in this super-cute WALL-E Plant Boot Mini Backpack. Loungefly is known for its unique backpack styles, but this one is really innovative. It features zippered pouches on the side inspired by Wall-E’s tracked wheels. The pouches also give him more of the iconic shape we know! Die-cut appliques and embroidered details recreate his darling face, and arms holding onto the plant boot!

Wristlet Wallet

The wristlet wallet features both Wall-E and Eve! They are both holding the famous plant against a bright-yellow background. I love that this wallet has been given a zippered compartment, and a wrist strap! You can use it as a wallet to pair with the backpack, or use it on it’s own for days when you just need a small clutch!

The vibrant new Wall-E Loungefly Collection is set to debut this month!

Jack Skellington’s Escape Room Online Learning Class

Jack Skellington's Escape Room

Are your kids bored at home? Why not sign them up for Jack Skellington’s Escape Room that teaches life skills?

Join the rescue team to stop the wicked genius, Jack Skellington, and return Santa from the frightening world of Halloween Town.

The Pumpkin King (Jack Skellington) has Santa locked in an abandoned warehouse, holding him hostage. Skellington’s one mistake, however, was letting his arrogance take over. He has left Santa trapped but has allowed him to be rescued if someone can solve 5 puzzles he left behind. He was so sure of his superior wisdom, that he knew no one could solve them all. You and your rescue team have found the secret way to Halloween Town and must outwit the Pumpkin King! Get through his puzzles, break out Santa, and get him back to Christmas Town before Christmas is ruined.

To finish this Escape Room with time left it will take TEAM WORK, PROBLEM SOLVING, PERSEVERANCE, and CRITICAL THINKING! This escape room has five unique puzzles meant to test all members of the team. This may be the most difficult escape room I have to date, so be ready!! Oh yeah! The best part! PARENTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO HELP!! I know you’re dying to sit in on this one!! So, it can be a fun, family holiday experience!!

After finding the way into Halloween Town, the first puzzle is a complex lock to even enter the abandoned warehouse where Santa is being kept. After that, the rescue team is met with a large metal door with a touch screen on it. There is a design that needs to be drawn onto it for the door to open. Once through the metal door, you enter a room with no doors or windows, but a wall of letter wheels to be put in just the right positions. If you pass the third puzzle, the wall will raise up to reveal a stone wall with hidden etchings. Figure what you need to do to which stone to enter the safe room where Santa is being kept. Only the best problem solvers will get Santa out of his enclosed vault.

Click here to learn more and to sign up. Sorry adults, it is only for kids age 11-16.
