NEWS! Face Coverings Will Be Required in Public Areas at Disney Vacation Club Hotels

We learned today that in addition to the Disney World theme parks preparing to open this July, Disney Vacation Club Resorts will be reopening to its Members and guests on June 22In addition, Disney’s Vero Beach Resort and Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort will reopen on June 15.

Saratoga Springs Resort

Ahead of the resorts opening, Disney sent an email to its Vacation Club members outlining several new measurements that will be in place when the properties reopen in just a few weeks.

It was noted that, “all Members and guests will be asked to wear face coverings in public resort areas while not eating or drinking and to respect physical distancing.”

Riviera Resort Pool

While news of these face coverings protocol doesn’t come as a terribly huge surprise, it further adds to the stringent health and safety procedures that Disney will have in place to ensure the safety of their guests and Cast Members.

Required Measures sign

In addition to the required face coverings, other safety protocols will be in place, including increased sanitation efforts in each room prior to the guest’s arrival. Physical distancing will also be implemented across resort properties, in areas like “lobbies, pools, fitness centers, and other public areas.”

Inspectors Deem Disney World as Ready to Reopen in Mid-July

This morning, Disney World proposed a reopening plan to the Orange County Economic Recovery Task Force.

Magic Kingdom

In order to get the approval ball rolling on their anticipated July 11th reopening date, the parks were required to undergo an inspection by local health professionals. This group took a look at how ready Disney World is to institute their proposed plan. Let’s take a look at what they found out and the conclusion they came to!

Jon Weiss, a Director for the Planning, Environmental and Development Services Department in Orange County, explained the results of the inspection to the Task Force today. The team performed inspections in both SeaWorld and Walt Disney World yesterday and determined that both properties were prepared to implement their proposed plans.

Attraction Reopening Plans

The inspection team was made up of Florida Health Department and Orange County officials including two epidemiologists, an EMS Medical Director, and some government officials.

According to Weiss, the team looked into wellness protocols for employees and the guest arrival process including parking, temperature checks, security, and ticketing. They evaluated the health operations in restaurants with mobile order and table separation and queue management with social distancing and changes in seating on rides as well.

Attraction Reopening Plans

Further, they compared park readiness in respect to hand-sanitizing stations and cleaning protocols for high-touch surfaces.

As mentioned, both SeaWorld and Disney World were deemed ready to implement their respective plans. From there, the plan was approved by the mayor and will now move to be approved by the Florida governor.

Disney CEO Bob Chapek talks to CNBC on Disney World Reopening

disney world

Today Disney submitted their plans for reopening the Walt Disney World theme parks. Disney CEO Bob Chapek spoke to CNBC to talk about those plans.

Chapek said he would like the reopening experience to be as “quintessentially Disney” as possible. He also stated that Disney wanted to proceed with the reopening in the most responsible way possible.

Chapek did not discuss any specific number or percentage in terms of what “limited capacity” constituted, but this is because there is no government guidance as to theme park density. The number of people Disney allows into the park will be a function of the CDC’s 6-foot social distancing rule.

Observations and guidance in the first phase of reopenings will help determine increasing the number of guests allowed in the parks in later phases. Overall Disney doesn’t expect demand to be impacted.

Walt Disney World hotels are scheduled to reopen July 11 but Chapek did say not all hotels will reopen then. Disney is temporarily pausing new ticket sales and hotel reservations in order to focus on guests with existing tickets and reservations.

One of Our MANY Questions About Disney World’s Food and Wine Festival Might Have Been ANSWERED!

Since Disney World closed in mid-March, we had wondered how different the parks and experiences would be upon reopening. One of those experiences we had a ton of questions about was the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival.

2019 Epcot Food and Wine Festival

Based on our trip today to Disney Springs, we have gained some insight on how the festival may be a bit different this fall!

We stopped by the Daily Poutine (because we obviously needed cheese and gravy after all these months inside!), and as we went to grab our fork to dig into our delicious boat of french fries, gravy, and cheese curds, we noticed something a bit different about the utensil dispenser!

Daily Poutine at Disney Springs

The utensil dispensers are set up now so you do not have to come in contact with any surface that another person may have touched. Before, the utensil dispensers commonly had a lever on the side that everyone needed to push to receive a new utensil. Here’s the old style:

Old Style Fork Dispenser

And the NEW:

Now, you just pull out your individual utensil and off you go! The ONLY thing you will be touching is the handle of the utensil that YOU will use! After you pull out your fork, another handle pops out!

The utensils themselves look a little different too and are designed in a way to fit in these new dispensers.

Looking ahead to the Food and Wine Festival, we wouldn’t be surprised if these new dispensers were placed at each one of the outdoor food booths! We can probably expect to see these at counter service locations when the parks reopen, too.

Check out some of the other health and safety procedures we’ve witnessed at Disney Springs here!

What other health and safety procedures to you expect to see at this year’s Food and Wine Festival? Share your thoughts in the comments!
