Everything You Need to Know About Face Masks in Disney Springs — Including Tips

We’ve been taking you around Disney Springs with us today to show you what the new procedures look like now that some of the stores and restaurants in Walt Disney World’s shopping and dining district have started to reopen.

Disney Springs

While we’ve seen many new safety measures being implemented throughout Disney Springs today, one of the biggest changes has been seeing everyone — from guests to Cast Members — wearing face coverings.

We want to provide you with some additional information regarding face masks in Disney Springs as well as what our first-hand experience wearing them has been like!

When Do You Have To Wear a Face Mask at Disney Springs

Currently, Disney Springs requires all Cast Members and guests to wear face coverings.

Required Measures sign

Children under the age of three aren’t required to wear one, but everyone else is.

Cast Member with required face mask

You will not be permitted to enter Disney Springs without wearing a face mask and you must wear it for the duration of your stay with a few exceptions, which we’ll discuss below.

Advent Health Cast Member at Temperature Screening

It’s important to know that though there were a VERY limited number of disposable masks available at the temperature screening areas, these are given as a last resort, and there are NO guarantees that any will be available.

New Protocols to Enter Disney Springs

We learned that Cast Members have been provided with three washable, reusable masks. And they are also allowed to bring their own, provided they meet established criteria.

Is Disney Selling Face Masks?

We are in the midst of our day at Disney Springs, and — at press time — retail locations are only starting to open. However, at this point, we have not spotted any masks for sale. (We will be checking more locations and notifying you here if this changes throughout the day.)

Free People reopening today

That said, the only locations open during this initial phase are operated by third-party vendors. Select Disney-owned and operated locations will be opening one week from today on May 27th, including the World of Disney store. While we do not know if they will be selling face coverings, we will certainly be checking and reporting upon their reopening.

When Can You Take Your Face Mask Off?

You can take your face mask off when you are seated at a restaurant or when you need to eat or drink.

Starbucks at Disney Springs Today

Now, this is fairly clear-cut when you are at a counter service or table service restaurant where you will occupy a table. But what if you are, say, grabbing a beverage at Starbucks or Joffrey’s and plan to walk around with it?

Starbucks at Disney Springs Today

In speaking with several Cast Members, we were informed that — if you have food or drink in hand — you may keep your mask lowered while you eat or drink.

Some Tips for Wearing Face Masks at Disney Springs

Disney Springs isn’t the only venue where face masks are required. We have had previous experience wearing them upon the reopening of Universal Orlando’s CityWalk, and found that the actual wearing of the mask does take a bit of getting used to.

Guest Relations Cast Member

We recommend maybe taking a few walks outside with a mask prior to visiting. We’ve also found it helpful to have some form of lip balm handy if you find your lips get a bit dry.

Remember, required face coverings are only one of the many new safety measures being implemented at Disney Springs — you can read more about all the measures here. We will continue to keep you posted on our Disney Springs visit today, and hope you stay tuned with us!

Disney calls on Congress to provide $1 trillion in coronavirus relief to local governments

Congress

Business leaders and corporate executives in the state of California are urging members of Congress to approve a budget increase for state and local governments affected by COVID-19.

The business leaders are members of California Governor Gavin Newsom’s business recovery task force. Their objective is to help repair the economy by recovering jobs and business activity. The business recovery task force is specifically asking Congress to provide $1 trillion in pandemic relief for all U.S. states.

Disney Executive Chairman Bob Iger is one member of the California business recovery task force. He is joined by nearly 100 other corporate leaders from companies such as Netflix, Salesforce, Facebook, and etc. Bob Iger is helping the task force since the Walt Disney Company represents a sizable part of the California economy. Stewardship is a big responsibility for business leaders because they must look out for the best interests of their employees and environment. Bob Iger and these other task force members are collaborating on how to best serve the interests of everyone during this national pandemic. The letter the task force sent to Congress includes the following excerpt:

“Reopening our economies is a welcome step forward, but the success of our efforts ultimately relies on building greater confidence among consumers that it is safe to shop and greater certainty for workers that the services they rely on to do their jobs will remain in place. Without that, we will be a re-opened economy in name only.”

They stress the importance of pandemic relief by stating how it will protect core government services and help people financially recover from the effects of COVID-19. Ensuring safety and helping people return to work are priorities mentioned in the letter to Congress.

Parking

Guests are able to self-park in the Orange and Lime garages and all surface parking lots are closed at this time. Valet parking is unavailable at this time as well.

Orange Lot

This morning we were told that Orange garage would be filled first. When we arrived it was self-park, meaning we weren’t directed by a Cast Member and we could park anywhere.

Parking Lot

Markers are located throughout the garage to remind people to stay 6ft apart.

6ft apart pole

Warning signs are spread out throughout the garage as well.

Warning Sign

Hand sanitizer locations are also available throughout the garage.

Hand Sanitizer

Due to capacity restrictions at Disney Springs, once the parking garages are full, guests will no longer be able to park and visit Disney Springs. This includes guests who have booked a dining reservation. If a guest is unable to make their reservation because Disney Springs is closed due to capacity, the dining guarantee charge will be waived.

Rideshare drop-offs are allowed and take place in the Marketplace lot.

Masks and Temperature Checks

When guests arrive at Disney Springs, they undergo a temperature check at one of the four open entrances. Temperatures are being checked at 4 locations: Orange and Lime garages, along with the Hotel Plaza Boulevard Pedestrian Bridge and the rideshare location.

Advent Health Signage

Markers have been placed on the ground to assist with social distancing.

Temperature Check

Advent Health employees use a touchless forehead thermometer for each guest. If you are wearing a hat, you will be asked to remove it.

Temperature Screening

Those with a temperature above 100.4 F or above are directed to an additional location (which is a large white tent) for rescreening and assistance. Guests can go here to sit and cool off. After cooling off, they can try to screen their temp one more time. After the additional screening, those with a temp that is still 100.4 F or higher will not be allowed into Disney Springs and their party is not allowed entry either.

Signage

These temperature checks are required for anyone going to Disney Springs, including guests, Cast Members, vendors, and other employees.

Temperature Screening

Face coverings are required for everyone (except for guests 3 and under). The only time guests are permitted to remove their face coverings is when they are dining.

Advent Health Cast Member

Disney has also shared that they may have a few disposable masks available for those who have arrived without a mask. However, these are not guaranteed, so come prepared!

Entering Disney Springs

Entering Disney Springs

There were a few guests, but crowds this morning have been pretty low.

Orange Garage

The official Springs hours are 10AM – 10PM for the time being.
