Eleven-year-old Lowri Moore, from Nottingham, England, wrote a letter to Bob Iger last year requesting the creation of Disney princesses that wear glasses. According to BBC News, Lowri, who wears glasses, said that she wanted to see more characters “wearing glasses like me.”

Lowri’s letter to Bob Iger read: “I’ve grown up watching Disney princesses and I’ve always admired them and thought they were beautiful. Unfortunately, none of the princesses wear glasses and that made me feel as though I’m not beautiful enough.”

Lowri described that the Disney characters featured with glasses were typically portrayed as “geeky or nerdy instead of beautiful.” She felt so strongly about the need for a glasses-wearing Disney princess that she came up with her own!

A local illustrator, Natalie Owen, heard about Lowri’s letter and character idea, and was a Disney fan herself- so she decided to help out! According to BBC News, Owen decided to create the story, ‘Princess Rose and the Golden Glasses,’ featuring a beautiful princess in an orange gown and, you guessed it…glasses!

Lowri was thrilled about the glasses-wearing princess- “The illustrations are amazing and I’m so excited this has happened. Rose has blue-ish glasses, brown long hair, kind of like me. Even if it’s not Disney it’s still a role model for young people. I’m happy I got to create one.”

Lowri’s mother was also touched by the new book- “[The character] thinks she’s not beautiful because she’s wearing glasses. A bit like someone else I know. And she goes on a bit of an adventure where she discovers she actually is beautiful. To come from a nine-year-old’s mind it’s so clever. I’m super proud.”

Although there is no response from Disney to Lowri’s letter, it would be great to see a glasses-wearing Disney princess in the future!

Disney Postpones Theatrical Release of ‘Mulan’ for a Second Time Over Coronavirus Concerns

Disney Postpones Theatrical Release of ‘Mulan’ for a Second Time Over Coronavirus Concerns

Disney Postpones Theatrical Release of ‘Mulan‘ for a Second Time Over Coronavirus Concerns. After already being postponed 4 months from its original release date of March 27th to July 24th, Disney is officially moving the release date for the film a second time.

“Making this films has been one of the most satisfying and exhilarating experiences of my entire career, and I’ve been so fortunate to be on this journey with some of the best cast and crew in the business,” director Niki Caro shared via Instagram following the initial release date change from March to July. “We are so excited to share this film with the world, but given the current ever-shifting circumstances we all are experiencing, unfortunately, we have to postpone the worldwide release of Mulan for now. Our hearts are with everyone the world over who is affected by this virus, and we hope that Mulan’s fighting spirit will continues to inspire those who are working so hard to keep us all safe,” Caro added.

The latest Disney live-action remake will now premiere in theaters on August 21st, instead of July 24th as previously planned. The primary reason, according to the Wall Street Journal, is the lack of attendance as theaters are beginning to re-open. Any film company would be hesitant to release a new film when audiences are at minimal capacity in theaters, so this doesn’t really come as a shock to those in the industry, but on the other side of the coin, a highly anticipated film could be just what audiences need to draw them back in to the theaters.

Most theaters, such as AMC Theatres, Cinemark, and Regal Cinemas, that have begun to re-open their doors have put new safety and cleanliness procedures in place to help moviegoers feel more at ease returning to public places,  but that hasn’t stirred much confidence among potential audience members as confirmed COVID-19 cases begin to spike in many states that were the first to re-open. Most theaters that have resumed operation are not even featuring relatively new titles yet, and have begun showing iconic films such as Jurassic Park, Back to the Future, E.T., the original Star Wars trilogy, Lord of the Rings, and Jaws to help draw in crowds.

Orange County requires everyone to wear a mask in public

Orange County requires everyone to wear a mask in public Orange County

Earlier today, Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings issued a statement in regards to new health and safety precautions. The central Florida area has seen a resurgence of the COVID-19 virus in the past 10 days. Starting this weekend, every person in Orange County must wear a face mask in public.

“We do not want to experience another shutdown in our community,” Demings said. In the future, the county could also see more restrictions go into effect to help protect people during this pandemic.

The order will take effect starting at 12:00 AM EST  this Saturday. The face mask requirement will remain in place indefinitely. It’s important to note that people are permitted to take off the mask while eating or drinking, but they must wear the mask as they enter such establishments. Employees of businesses must wear a face covering at all times. People who are exercising outside are exempt from the order.

“We’re buying time with this measure,” Demings said until a vaccine or cure for the virus is found.

It’s been established for a while now that guests going to Walt Disney World Resort would be required to wear a face mask. Now it’s important to keep in mind that all public places in Orange County will also require face masks going forward for the indefinite future.
