Walt Disney World Updates Age for Face Mask Policy

disney world

Disney World released health and safety policies that will be implemented when the theme parks reopen in July. One of those policies is that all guests wear a face covering while visiting the parks. They recently updated the age requirement for wearing a face covering.

All Guests ages 2 and up—along with Cast Members—are required to wear face coverings when visiting Walt Disney World Resort. Please bring your own face coverings and wear them at all times, except when dining or swimming.

All face coverings should:

  • Fully cover an individual’s nose and mouth and allow the Guest to remain hands-free
  • Fit snugly but comfortably against the side of the face
  • Be secured with ties or ear loops
  • Be made of breathable material, either disposable or reusable

Costume masks are not considered appropriate and are prohibited from being worn, in alignment with our existing rules. The use of face coverings is not a substitute for physical distancing.

Wearing a face covering is just one of the changes Disney is making for the upcoming reopening. You can find the other changes here. You’ll also find what you need to know on our sister site, Disney Addicts.

Disney also has face masks for sale on ShopDisney.

New Disney World Website “Experience Updates” Now Available

disney world

Disney has released a lot of news and updates lately regarding their reopening plans for Walt Disney World. You can visit a new “Know Before You Go” hub, “Experience Updates“, to help keep informed on what changes will be made.

The new page explains how cleanliness, physical distancing, and reduced contact is only the start of the measures that will be implemented when Walt Disney World reopens.

The page also mentions a new Park Reservation system that will be in place at the start of the reopenings. Guests will need to have a park reservation and valid admission to the theme park in order to be allowed inside.

At this time, ticket sales and new Resort hotel reservations are put on hold to honor reservations that have already been made. If you have already purchased a ticket or are an Annual Passholder, you will be able to make reservation requests before sales open again.

The site also gives guests a list of top things to know before going to the parks. Just like at Disney Springs, guests going to the parks will need to wear face coverings, go through a temperature check, and practice social distancing.

At the end of the page is a COVID-19 warning. Even with all of the health and safety measures Disney implements, there’s still a risk of exposure. Guests who visit Walt Disney World Resort voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to the virus.

This site will continue to be updated as Disney makes changes and updates its policies.

Walt Disney World Resort Cancelling FastPasses, Dining Reservations, and More

With the announcement that the Walt Disney World Resort would potentially be reopening the Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Animal Kingdom on July 11 and Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios on July 15, there were, of course, some things that we didn’t know.

What was announced was that when the theme parks reopen, attendance would be managed through a new theme park reservation system that will require all guests to make a reservation in advance for theme park entry. Details about how this system will work will be released later. But how would things move forward for those who already had their vacations planned – especially with things like dining reservations, FastPasses and more. We now have an answer.

First of all, as I had mentioned in a previous article, the Walt Disney World Resort is currently pausing new ticket sales, as well as any new Walt Disney World Resort Hotel reservations. This will allow Disney to focus on Guests who already have tickets and reservations currently scheduled during a time when park capacity will be extremely limited. For those who have already bought tickets and those who are Annual Passholders, they will be able to make a theme park reservation before any new tickets are sold to the general public moving forward. These individual with already purchased ticket media will be contacted soon to provide additional details. New ticket sales and Disney Resort hotel reservations will resume after that period of time.

In addition, due to the need to physically limit Guests, Disney has decided to cancel all existing dining reservations, as well as experience bookings (like the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, Savi’s Workshop, tours, etc). When the ability to make dining and experience reservations opens back up, Guests will find that it will be a 60-day booking window, not the traditional 180-day booking window. Those Guests who did have existing reservations will have priority access to rebook dining and experience reservations when they reopen.

In addition, the Disney Dining Plan will be suspended through the end of the year. And those who purchased a Disney Dining Plan for dates between May 28, 2020 and September 26, 2021 will be automatically cancelled. If you have purchased the Disney Dining Plan for your upcoming vacation, you will be refunded that money.

Those who booked a Resort hotel reservation with Free Dining for dates between May 28, 2020 and September 26, 2021 will also see their Disney Dining Plan cancelled and they can choose to rebook their vacation for a later date with a 35% room discount.

In addition, for the time being, FastPass+ will be suspended as the additional queue space that normally gets taken up by FastPass+ Guests will now be used to help manage capacity and maintain physical distancing. Existing FastPass+ selections that have previously been made will be cancelled.

Finally, Extra Magic Hours for the parks will be temporarily suspended.

Disney will be reaching out to those Guests who are affected by these updates with additional information and details on options, including refunds.

Stay tuned to the blog for more information on what new changes are in store for those looking to visit the Walt Disney World Resort as we navigate a world that now has the threat of coronavirus.

News! Legoland Is The First California Theme Park to Propose a Reopening Date

Now that California Governor Gavin Newsom says theme parks may reopen in Phase Three, Legoland has just proposed its reopening date.

Legoland

The theme park located in Carlsbad, California is hoping to reopen on July 1st.

Legoland Florida is set to reopen on June 1st, along with several other Orlando-based theme parks, have announced June reopenings including Universal Studios and potentially SeaWorld. But in California, theme parks aren’t allowed to reopen until at least Stage Three, a phase the state’s health officials are anticipating will happen until June at the earliest.

As reported by The Orange County Register, California’s Legoland and SeaWorld were scheduled to meet yesterday, May 27th with San Diego County health officials to discuss what health and safety measures they would be implementing upon reopening (social distancing for guests and staff, increased sanitization, contactless payments, limited capacity, and employee training, etc.), but so far only Legoland has submitted a reopening date.

News! New Walt Disney Company Treasurer Announced

Earlier this month, The Walt Disney Company announced a wave of leadership shifts.

Disney Springs

These changes included appointing new park presidents for both Disney World and Disneyland, naming Josh D’Amaro the Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products, and shifting Rebecca Campbell into the role of Chairman for the Direct-To Consumer sector. And now, Disney announced a change to its financial leadership.

Shortly after news broke that the Disney World parks were proposed to reopen in July after being closed since March, Deadline reported that The Walt Disney Company has appointed a new treasurer.

Cinderella Castle

Previous senior vice president, Treasurer, Jonathan Headley, is retiring and finance executive, Carlos Gómez, has been promoted to take his place. Gómez will report to the Chief Financial Officer, Christine McCarthy, and will oversee Disney’s “corporate finance, liquidity management, capital markets, and banking activities,” among other roles.

Disney Springs

Gómez has been a member of the Walt Disney Co. team for 22 years and has served as the vice president of Investor Relations since 2011. He commented on his new position stating, “I look forward to leveraging my experience in this new role…to ensure the company has the access to capital necessary to execute on its strategic priorities, and to help guide the team through this unprecedented time.”

Walt Disney World

McCarthy referred to Gómez as “an exceptionally talented and versatile finance executive,” and noted Headley “leaves behind an impressive legacy which includes an outstanding treasury organization and strong roster of talent…of which Carlos is a tremendous example.”
