The reopening of Disneyland has been rocky.

Downtown Disney’s World of Disney

The reopening date for the parks and resorts was announced, only to be delayed. Now, we know that Downtown Disney will be opening as planned (with a few changes!) on July 9th despite the suspension of indoor operations for several sectors in California counties.

Earlier today, California Governor Gavin Newsom mandated that all restaurants, wineries and tasting rooms, movie theaters, family entertainment centers, zoos, and museums and cardrooms in 19 counties, including Orange County, where Disneyland resides, must close their indoor operations. But that’s not stopping Downtown Disney.

According to People, Downtown Disney will be opening on July 9th, but all restaurants will only have outdoor seating. By making this change, Disney is able to open the shopping, dining, and entertainment complex while staying within the confines of the new government action.

California Governor Shuts Down all Bars, Restaurants and More

California Governor Shuts Down all Bars, Restaurants and More

Due to the rise in COVID-19 cases in California, the California Governor has shut down indoor operations at bars, restaurants, and other businesses. Bars are the only business that must close all operations.

Counties in California that have been on the County Monitoring List for 3 days or more are required to move certain operations outdoors or close completely.

The following business are impacted by this decision:

  • Restaurants
  • Wineries & Tasting Rooms
  • Movie Theaters
  • Family Entertainment Centers
  • Zoos and Museums
  • Cardrooms
  • Bars (must close all operations)

The Office of the Governor of California posted on Twitter today:

#COVID19 cases are spreading at alarming rates in some CA counties.

Effective immediately, @CAPublicHealth is requiring counties that have been on the County Monitoring List for at least 3 days to move certain sectors outdoors or close. pic.twitter.com/NZv7cUHf9L

This will mean businesses in the Downtown Disney District will need to move operations outdoors or remain closed. No official statement from Disney has been released regarding this change.

Legoland Florida is set to reopen on June 1st, along with several other Orlando-based theme parks, have announced June reopenings including Universal Studios and potentially SeaWorld.
