Changes to Disneyland Reservations for guests with travel in mid-June

Disneyland Reservations

Changes are coming to Disneyland Reservations for guests with travel in mid-June.

Disneyland Resort Guests with resort hotel bookings during the week of June 14th – 20th, 2020, are receiving notifications that their stays will be impacted by our temporary closures, and they may modify or cancel their Disney Resort hotel reservations or Walt Disney Travel Company packages. Disney is asking Guests who didn’t book directly with Disney to call their Travel Professional.

Sample letter – Disneyland Resort Guests are receiving.

Dear Guest,

We are sorry to inform you that your upcoming visit with us will be impacted by several closures.

While there is still much uncertainty with respect to the impacts of COVID-19, the safety and well-being of our Guests and employees remain The Walt Disney Company’s top priority.

As a result of this unprecedented pandemic and in line with direction provided by health experts and government officials, the Disneyland Resort is currently closed and a reopening date has not been identified.

If you have already modified or canceled your upcoming Disneyland Resort hotel room reservation or Walt Disney Travel Company vacation package, no further action needs to be taken. If you’re interested in modifying your existing travel dates or making a new reservation for a future vacation, reservations are currently available for travel dates July 1, 2020 and later.

To provide additional flexibility, we are waiving Disney-imposed change and cancellation fees up to the date of check-in for reservations with arrivals through June 30, 2020. If you are unable to reach us before your check-in date for such time period, you will not be penalized or assessed Disney-imposed fees for canceling your Disneyland Resort hotel room reservation or Walt Disney Travel Company vacation package after your check-in date.

Note that some package components are nonrefundable and subject to third-party operator cancellation policies. You should work directly with any third-party operators you have used to book any parts of your vacation package that were not booked through the Walt Disney Travel Company, including flights, travel protection and car rentals.

A Special Offer for Eligible Guests

Eligible Guests of the Disneyland Resort Hotels may receive a $50 per night resort credit* for stays between July 1, 2020 and December 31, 2020. In addition to the resort credit, eligible Guests may also take advantage of a special Disneyland Resort offer to save up to 35%** on stays most nights July 1, 2020 through October 3, 2020.

The resort offer is valid for Guests who booked a room reservation, or a Walt Disney Travel Company vacation package, to stay at a Disneyland Resort hotel during the period from March 16, 2020 through June 30, 2020 and on dates that the Disneyland Resort theme parks are closed. Offer is not valid for room reservations or packages canceled before March 1, 2020, or for multiple rebooks of the same room or package reservation.

To receive more details about this offer, and to cancel or modify your reservation, please contact the Walt Disney Travel Company at (714) 520-5050 between the hours of 8:00 AM and 7:00 PM, 7 days a week. If you originally booked through a Travel Agent, please reach out to them directly if you have questions or would like to reschedule. Be sure to ask about the special offer above!

We do anticipate heavy call volume and appreciate your patience as we work hard to respond to all inquiries.

News! Legoland Is The First California Theme Park to Propose a Reopening Date

Now that California Governor Gavin Newsom says theme parks may reopen in Phase Three, Legoland has just proposed its reopening date.

Legoland

The theme park located in Carlsbad, California is hoping to reopen on July 1st.

Legoland Florida is set to reopen on June 1st, along with several other Orlando-based theme parks, have announced June reopenings including Universal Studios and potentially SeaWorld. But in California, theme parks aren’t allowed to reopen until at least Stage Three, a phase the state’s health officials are anticipating will happen until June at the earliest.

©SeaWorld

As reported by The Orange County Register, California’s Legoland and SeaWorld were scheduled to meet yesterday, May 27th with San Diego County health officials to discuss what health and safety measures they would be implementing upon reopening (social distancing for guests and staff, increased sanitization, contactless payments, limited capacity, and employee training, etc.), but so far only Legoland has submitted a reopening date.

Now that Disney World in Florida has submitted its reopening plan and tentative dates, and Legoland in California has proposed a tentative reopening date, we interested to see when Disneyland will make their proposal. As always, we’ll keep you updated as soon as we find out anything!

New Staggered Opening and Closing Times for Park Hours at WDW

With the announcement of the reopening plans for Walt Disney World yesterday, a variety of changes were mentioned that were expected: masks, hand washing stations, and so on. Even the predicted reservation system and reduced crowd levels were mentioned. What wasn’t mentioned, but was updated on Disney’s park hours web site last night, were the changes in park hours.

Here’s the updated schedule currently on the Walt Disney World web site:

Magic Kingdom

  • Magic Kingdom will be open, starting July 11, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Morning Extra Magic Hours are listed on Fridays from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. and Evening Extra Magic hours are listed on Wednesdays from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Select dates also have the hard ticket Early Morning Magic in Fantasyland event from 7:45 a.m. to 9 a.m., although this may change.
  • There will be no parades or fireworks.

Epcot

  • Epcot will be open, starting July 15, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. (This will be a fixed time for all of Epcot instead of staggered opening hours for Future World and World Showcase.)
  • Morning Extra Magic Hours are listed on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and Evening Extra Magic hours are listed on Tuesdays from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m.
  • There will be no nighttime fireworks show.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios

  • Disney’s Hollywood Studios will be open, starting July 15, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Morning Extra Magic Hours are not listed for Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Evening Extra Magic Hours are listed on Sundays from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.
  • There are no parades or “fireworks and nighttime spectacular” (including Fantasmic!)  shows listed.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom

  • Disney’s Animal Kingdom will be open, starting July 11, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Morning Extra Magic Hours are listed on Mondays and Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. Evening Extra Magic Hours are not listed for Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
  • There are no nighttime showings of Rivers of Light listed.

Disney Springs

Disney Springs will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. In all likelihood, by the time the theme parks reopen, we would expect all businesses at Disney Springs to have reopened.

Disney’s Water Parks

As of today, hours are listed for Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach starting on June 11. Both parks are listed as open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and there are still mentions of H2O Glow Nights for Typhoon Lagoon on select nights. Disney had not made any sort of announcement about the reopening of the water parks, and this was not included in their presentation to the Orange County board yesterday. It is possible Disney will make another request for reopening shortly, or it could be that those hours will disappear off of the web site in the future. We’ll have to wait and see.

Why the Change?

Although Disney has not given insight into their reasons for the changes in hours, it is likely for logistical reasons regarding bus transportation at the resorts.

  • To allow for less crowded buses, you’ll need to run more buses for a park’s opening and closing time peaks. Staggering opening hours means that you can have the same number of buses show up at a resort to pick people up, but they will be able to go to the same location instead of servicing all four theme parks for the same morning opening time.
  • Staggering opening and closing times may also permit buses to be taken out of rotation for additional cleaning and sanitizing.
  • For park openings, you will need additional room for people to line up, with appropriate distancing, in queues to get on the buses. Having the surge of people come at staggered times will allow for increased room to spread out the lines for the buses.
  • For park closings, staggering the times means you can send additional buses to a theme park to try and clear the rush faster to try and avoid quite as many people standing in lengthy queues.

Are These Shorter Hours 100% Certain?

It’s Disney–nothing is 100% certain. It is possible that, as procedures play out with the reopening of the parks, hours could be adjusted. Should hours change, we will keep you updated. In the meantime, more than ever, if you plan a vacation to Walt Disney World this summer, remember to pack your patience.

What do you think of these reduced hours? Would they make you less likely to vacation to Walt Disney World this summer, or are you excited to have “sleep in” days automatically built into your schedule? Let us know in the comments.

It’s remarkable to think that almost a year has passed since we held the dedication of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland Resort and later at Walt Disney World Resort. We are gratified by just how much fans have embraced this unique place. Today, I’m excited to share that later this year, you will be able to discover new stories, explore the outskirts of Batuu, and meet new characters from your home thanks to ILMxLAB, Lucasfilm’s award-winning entertainment studio, and Oculus Studios.

Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge is a new action-adventure experience that will give fans the opportunity to live their own adventures in virtual reality. The original story will feature both new and iconic characters from the Star Wars galaxy. Multiple styles of gameplay as well as difficulty settings are included so that the experience can be enjoyed by a variety of players – from Star Wars fans to VR gamers.

Explore the outskirts of Batuu, and meet new characters from your home thanks to ILMxLAB, Lucasfilm’s award-winning entertainment studio, and Oculus Studios

Just like Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, the story will take place between Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker on Batuu, with the action happening along the outskirts of Black Spire Outpost. This extension of the storytelling found at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge builds on the lore of a land that has redefined what a Disney park experience can be, and we can’t wait for you to experience it yourself!

Stay tuned to the Disney Parks Blog for more details on this new virtual reality experience that is coming out later this year!
