Quick Review: Dole Whip Nachos Are Not Worth The Hype

Somehow the collective Disney fandom has been sleeping on the Dole Whip Nachos at Disney Springs (as the kids say). This sugary dessert actually debuted in September 2019, and it flew under the radar. Now with Disney Springs being the only thing open at Walt Disney World, their moment to shine has arrived.

The Dole Whip Nachos sound fun and exciting, and they are a good idea in theory. Anyone who has had ice cream “nachos” knows its basically a waffle bowl that was broken and a sundae was made on top of its shattered pieces. You can find the Dole Whip Nachos at Marketplace Snacks, across from World of Disney.

For $8.99 you can nibble on waffle cone chips topped with Dole Whip Pineapple Soft Serve, fresh pineapple, strawberry sauce, whipped cream, rainbow sprinkles, and mango boba pearls. I personally think mango boba pearls ruin everything. But, others find them tasty and mildly entertaining, I guess. And it is nice when Disney Springs has a specialty food item that is all its own.

Our field research team was not impressed by the Dole Whip Nachos. They warn Dole Whip enthusiasts that the toppings take away from the glory that is Dole Whip. Simply stated, “You don’t put a mustache on the Mona Lisa.”

Are you a Dole Whip enthusiast? Will you dig into the Dole Whip Nachos next time you’re at Disney Springs?

Disney Springs Updates Operating Hours

Disney Springs

Disney Springs in Walt Disney World has just adjusted its operating hours until further notice.

To comply with Orange County’s 10 p.m. curfew, effective today, Sunday, May 31 and until further notice, we are closing Disney Springs at 7 p.m., allowing cast members, operating participant employees and guests time to return home.

The change in operating hours was posted on the Disney Springs Home Page.

As we continue our phased reopening of Disney Springs with a number of shopping and dining locations, we are eager to welcome back our Guests, some Cast Members and third-party Operating Participants with safety and well-being of all at the forefront of all our planning efforts.

As we navigate through this unprecedented time as responsibly as we can, we have implemented a number of new safety measures based on guidance from health authorities, such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and appropriate government agencies. We, along with third-party Operating Participants, are all committed to a responsible reopening of Disney Springs.

For Cast Members, Operating Participant employees and Guests, there are 6 key things to know before arriving at Disney Springs, and they include:

  • Limited parking and reduced entrances
  • Temperature screenings prior to entry
  • Face coverings required for Guests ages 2 and up
  • Physical distancing practices including physically-distanced queues and physical barriers
  • Temporary operation modifications, including reduced hours at select locations and no scheduled entertainment offerings or high-touch interactive areas
  • An increased focus on disinfecting and sanitation, including the addition of hand-washing stations and hand sanitizers in key areas

Since many of these measures will be new, and may evolve, we want to be sure Guests, Cast Members and Operating Participant employees are aware of all these changes.

New Disney World Discount for Guests that Booked Free Dining

Disney recently began canceling all Walt Disney World dining reservations, FastPass+ reservations, experience reservations, and Disney Dining Plans through the end of 2020. Guests who had booked their vacation package with a Free Dining Plan are receiving emails informing them of a new discount available to them.

A portion of the email reads:

“We will be modifying your package to remove the dining plan. As an accommodation, the price of the package will be adjusted to reflect a 35% savings on the room portion. This modified package and price will be provided in a new confirmation. You will receive a refund of the difference in the package price if you have already paid in full or a reduction in amount due if you have not yet made final payment.

There’s nothing you need to do at this time. We will be contacting you shortly with more details about the process to secure new reservations, including our new dining and experience reservation window which will accommodate selections up to 60 days prior to arrival to allow for planning closer to your visit.

At this time, while systems update, we are temporarily suspending all modifications. However, you have the option of canceling your entire reservation at any time.”

All of the cancelations are due to new capacity limits Disney World will be putting in place when the parks reopen next month.

Maple Bacon Chocolate-Chip Cookie Dough: Two Delicious Favorites, One Treat

bacon cookie dough disney springs

I was walking around Disney Springs minding my own business when a sign caught my eye.  Maple Bacon Chocolate-Chip Cookie Dough!

This dessert is just what it sounds like; a scoop of refrigerated chocolate chip cookie dough topped with sweet, chewy bacon.  It was an interesting combination.  The flavors all stayed on the sweeter side due to the bacon being candied.  The cookie dough was cool and creamy.

This is currently the only cookie dough option at Disney Springs with the food truck section remaining closed.  The Candied Bacon Chocolate Chip-Cookie Dough can be found at B.B. Wolf’s across from the Lego Store on the bridge at Disney Springs.  This is an unusual offering for this stand that usually features sausage sandwiches, etc.

The bacon and cookie dough combo costs $4.49.  It is one of the smaller portions found on Disney property.

Are you drooling yet? What do you think?  Do bacon and cookie dough make a delicious combination? We will let you be the judge!
