Disney Bounding at Home: ‘Frozen 2’-Inspired Looks Featuring Anna, Elsa and Kristoff

This one goes out to all the Disney fashionistas out there: whether you’re brand new to Disney bounding at home, or a seasoned pro, there’s no better time to embody your favorite Disney characters and create a comfy-meets-fashion Disney look at home using items from your own closet!

Today is National Streaming Day, and this year fans can stream their favorites or discover something new on Disney+! I’ve been streaming Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Frozen 2” while belting “Show Yourself” so loudly that the entire kingdom of Arendelle can hear me. So, I reached out to Leslie Kay, author of the new book, “DisneyBound: Dress Disney and Make It Fashion”, to help you find that Arendelle magic in items you already own.

Check out the inspiration boards below for some adventurous attire, fit for any queen or king, without having to turn your entire home to ice!

Else-inspired look

To channel the Snow Queen herself, Elsa, an icy blue hue is key. Light denims, a pale blue wrap or cardigan and belt, and some sparkly shoes are all it takes to prepare to step into your powers!

Anna-inspired look

Embark on an adventure at home – or even in your own backyard—in an Anna-inspired LBD (little black dress) with a purple wrap or cape. Top it off with some black booties and copper jewelry, and you’ll be ready to do the next right thing!

Kristoff-inspired look

To channel Kristoff’s ruggedly handsome but equally adventurous iceman look, you only need some black jeans, a brown T-shirt and black vest or hoodie, and some boots. Bonus points if you have a pet at home who can step in as your reindeer companion Sven!

Embrace what makes you different and check out how you can make your very own Disney-inspired looks in Leslie’s new book, “DisneyBound: Dress Disney and Make It Fashion”,  as well as our guide to Disney bounding at home as Ian & Barley from “Onward”!

#DisneyMagicMoments: Behind the Camera – Backstage in the ‘Balloon Room’ at Magic Kingdom Park

‘Balloon Room’ at Magic Kingdom Park

This is a backstage magic photo I took in the “balloon room” at Magic Kingdom Park, where the balloons are prepped for the day. My plan for being in this room was to show how Walt Disney World Resort brings joy to guests every day. And what brings more joy to a child than a balloon?

The balloons on Main Street, U.S.A. are one of my absolute favorite things in any Disney park. The colors … the liveliness of them bopping into one another … I just LOVE them!

When I walked into the room on this particular morning a few years ago, balloons were flooding the space, making it hard to even close the door behind me. Walking through hundreds of these balloons – having them all bump up against me and my camera gear – felt like a hug. It was a really magical moment that made me feel lucky to work where I do.

I had some lighting equipment in tow and an assistant to help me carve out a shot I had envisioned in my head, but as we were setting things up, I saw this scene playing out and quickly fired the shutter. I knew immediately, before even looking at the little screen on my camera or getting back to my desk, I had the shot that was in my head – no additional help or lights needed! It’s moments like that when I’m reminded Disney magic is everywhere.

STEAM Tips from Walt Disney Imagineering: Think Like an Engineer!

The most exciting part about STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) is that it takes all five disciplines to create something really special. There are Imagineers who are experts in each area, collaborating to create experiences much greater than the sum of their parts.

Last week, we shared STEAM tips about the arts, and the series continues today with STEAM tips from Imagineers about how to think like an engineer!

Angela Jay, a senior software developer who worked on many of the interactive elements in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, said, “A user interface is anything that allows a user (you!) to interact with a system, like a ride or a robot or an app. First ask what a user might want to know about a system and how they might need to control it. Then decide how to organize everything, which starts with drawing it out. Where should the information be displayed? Where should the buttons go? What kind of buttons? Maybe a dial would work better? Since this is a sketch, you can rearrange things until the layout looks right to you. You can even cut them out of paper and lay them out. Test out your design with a family member to see if they understand what everything is and does. This is called ‘user testing’ and is a part of User Experience design. If something doesn’t make sense, try again!”

Armand Dao, a senior civil engineer, works on utility designs such as stormwater management plans. Armand recently worked on the utility designs for Pandora – The World of Avatar. He suggested, “When designing complex utility systems, think about it like a layered cake. The bottom of the cake is the base and most stable, therefore, you can start stacking your systems from there. We start with the deepest utilities and then work our way up. Once that’s complete, our show production team puts the icing on the cake for guests to see.”

Senior Project Controls Planner Jason Bayer helps to plan the design, production and installation of attractions such as Avatar Flight of Passage and Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. Jason advised, “Engineering is really about developing a way of thinking that makes you a good problem solver. If you ever think to yourself, ‘When will I ever use this in real life?,’ try to shift your perspective and view it as a way to help develop your problem-solving skills. The ability to assess a problem or situation, think through possible outcomes by applying your knowledge and come to a good answer or decision is something that will be valuable your entire life.”

Stay tuned for more STEAM tips from Imagineers!
