Walt Disney Imagineering has officially extended a major construction permit for the upcoming Encanto attraction at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The permit, filed for 610 DinoLand Drive, covers the transformation of the former Dino-Rama area into the new Tropical Americas land. This extension pushes the project timeline through May 19, 2027, providing additional time for the massive development work. It marks the third permit extension since late 2024, which is common for large-scale projects involving complex infrastructure and themed architecture. Recent construction milestones include the installation of the final steel beam for the ride building, with accelerated progress on queue areas and interior spaces. The attraction will be a ride-through experience following Antonio Madrigal as he receives his gift of communicating with animals. The broader Tropical Americas expansion will also feature a reimagined DINOSAUR ride and a new animal-themed carousel. Disney expects the entire land to open sometime in 2027, though an exact date remains unannounced.
Recent updates at Disney World have not yet resulted in the expected drastic changes to wait times across the parks. At Magic Kingdom, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad experienced an eight-hour closure, causing its wait time to spike to 80 minutes before returning to normal levels. Most other attractions maintained relatively short lines, with many rides hovering around five minutes during peak periods. However, TRON Lightcycle Run and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train occasionally saw waits exceed 60 minutes. In Epcot, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind experienced a sudden surge to 145 minutes before dropping back down, while other attractions remained stable. Animal Kingdom saw Na’vi River Journey reach a 70-minute wait, though Flight of Passage remained popular despite longer lines. Epcot’s Frozen Ever After and Spaceship Earth faced temporary closures, impacting guest flow. Overall, the parks are adapting to new changes without significant disruptions to the overall visitor experience.
Universal Orlando is set to bring back the exclusive Volcano Bay Under the Stars event in 2026, offering a family-friendly experience with reduced wait times. This special evening event runs from 7 to 11 PM on select nights through August 21st, providing guests with access to popular water park attractions under the night sky. For $99 per person, attendees enjoy shorter ride lines, live DJ music on Waturi Beach, interactive games, and opportunities to meet DreamWorks characters. The event also features exclusive snacks and a complimentary Coca-Cola Freestyle souvenir cup with unlimited free refills throughout the water park. While the price point is significant, the combination of exclusive entertainment, character interactions, and a less crowded environment makes it an attractive option for water park enthusiasts. The event promises a unique and exciting atmosphere that differs from the typical daytime experience at Volcano Bay.
Disney World’s Animal Kingdom Lodge is undergoing significant renovations to its guest rooms. The Kidani Village expansion, which opened in 2009, has been refurbished since last October and will finish later this month. Following this completion, renovations will begin at the original Jambo House building in May 2026, lasting until January 2027. Both projects aim to provide modernized accommodations while maintaining access to all hotel amenities including pools, dining options, and recreation areas. Guests will continue to enjoy Deluxe Tier benefits such as booking Lightning Lanes seven days in advance. The resort remains one of Disney World’s most popular accommodations due to its unique savanna theme and live animal inhabitants.
