Baby Giraffe Ivy Makes Debut at Kilimanjaro Safaris

A new baby giraffe named Ivy has made her debut at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and is now available to see on the Kilimanjaro Safaris. Born in April, Ivy weighed 120 pounds and stood nearly six feet tall when she was first spotted with her mother Willow and another female named Lily. The giraffes at this park have tree-themed names since their diet consists mainly of leaves from trees. This addition to the Masai giraffe population is particularly meaningful because these animals are classified as endangered by conservation organizations. Only around 30,000 Masai giraffes remain in the wild according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature. The birth of Ivy helps maintain a healthy family tree for this species and ensures future generations can thrive. Visitors now have the opportunity to see this adorable new addition roaming freely on the savanna before park opening hours.
