Disney World is implementing significant changes to its attractions, with Carousel of Progress in Magic Kingdom receiving a major refurbishment. The attraction closed on July 5th and will remain closed until an unspecified date in 2027 for this extensive update. Visitors witnessed emotional farewells as crowds sang the iconic theme song during the final rides before closure. Construction walls have been installed near the entrance and exit areas, though most of the work will occur inside the attraction. The new version will feature a completely updated story spanning four acts set in different eras from the 1960s through a possible future timeline. Disney confirmed that the classic Sherman Brothers theme song will remain while following the same family characters throughout the new narrative. A special addition includes a Walt Disney animatronic figure in the opening scene, inspired by his original presentation at the 1964 World’s Fair where he first revealed this attraction concept. This marks only one major change to the Magic Kingdom version during its fifty-year operational history since opening in 1975.
