Disney has announced that the Carousel of Progress attraction will close on July 5, 2026, for a significant long-term update. The show is scheduled to reopen in 2027 with a new introduction featuring a Walt Disney animatronic. This update represents the most substantial change to the attraction since it moved to Disneyland in 1967. The new production will maintain its four-act structure, but each act will now represent different decades, including 1969, 1985, 1999, and a future year around 2169. Sarah will serve as the main narrator instead of John, replacing the current voice. Disney has released new concept art for the attraction poster to showcase these changes. The finale scene will be updated to reflect modern technology, moving away from outdated references to car phones and laser discs. Despite its high capacity, the attraction often operates with sparse attendance, prompting this strategic update. The changes aim to draw guests to the Magic Kingdom side of the park, especially as new lands like Piston Peak and Villains Land open in 2028.
