Disney Cruise Line Tests Wristbands Instead of Cards

Disney Cruise Line is testing a new wearable wristband system to replace traditional stateroom cards on the Disney Treasure. Guests on the October 10 sailing will either receive a new test wristband during check-in or activate their existing DisneyBand+ device. These temporary wristbands are not kept as souvenirs and must be returned at the end of the cruise via collection bins at the terminal. The trial aims to collect guest feedback on a hands-free alternative that simplifies unlocking rooms and making onboard purchases. This limited test focuses on improving the onboard experience by reducing the need to carry physical cards. It remains uncertain whether successful results will lead to a permanent fleet-wide implementation of the wristband system.

Key Points:

  • Guests on the October 10 sailing of the Disney Treasure will not find traditional Key to the World cards at their stateroom doors.
  • Guests who do not own a DisneyBand+ will be given a new test wristband during the check-in process.
  • Cruisers who already own a DisneyBand+ can use their existing devices, which will be activated at check-in.
  • Temporary test wristbands are specific to this sailing and must be returned at the end of the cruise in collection bins.
  • The trial aims to make the onboard experience more seamless by offering a hands-free alternative to carrying physical cards.
  • It is unclear if successful results will lead to a permanent fleet-wide rollout of the wristband system.
