Disneyland is transitioning its iconic Autopia ride from gas-powered vehicles to fully electric models as part of a settlement agreement with the California Air Resources Board. The attraction, which has operated since 1955 using Honda engines, must complete this conversion by early 2027 or face potential closure. This change follows a $56,000 fine in 2024 for operating vehicles without certified emission controls due to an administrative oversight that was quickly corrected. While officials are currently designing and testing new electric prototypes, no specific dates have been set for the ride’s reopening after the transition. The shift aligns with Disneyland Resort’s broader sustainability goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2030 through increased use of renewable energy sources.
