Disneyland’s historic King Arthur Carrousel, a beloved attraction since 1955, will undergo its first major refurbishment starting July 6, 2026. This closure follows a previous restoration project that began in January 2020 and marks a significant pause in the ride’s operations. Disney has not yet announced a reopening date or detailed the scope of the upcoming maintenance work. The company typically uses these routine tune-ups to refresh intricate mechanics, touch up vibrant paint, and ensure the ride’s longevity for future generations. Originally manufactured in 1922 for a Canadian park, the carousel was purchased by Walt Disney and relocated to California in 1954. It was extensively reimagined with all-galloping white horses before opening on Disneyland’s historic day in 1955. The attraction is famously themed after The Sword in the Stone, featuring an iconic anvil and sword monument for guests to test their strength.
