In 2024, Disneyland performers formed a new union called Magic Unlimited to represent entertainment cast members. The union includes theatrical performers, parade participants, character actors, and support staff like hosts and trainers. During contract negotiations with Disney, the company proposed removing paid parental leave benefits and reducing paid holidays from twelve to eleven days. Union representatives report that the proposal also decreases 401(k) matching contributions for employees. A Disneyland spokesperson stated that no benefits are being cut since this is a first-time contract negotiation rather than modifying an existing agreement. The current deal would reduce the eight weeks of parental leave previously received by cast members before organizing. Critics argue that removing these family-friendly benefits undermines the very experience Disney provides to visitors.
