Disneyland Unveils Moving Skeleton Pirate in Pirates of Caribbean Ride

Visitors to Disneyland recently discovered a major update to the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction after its two-month closure. The ride now features a transforming pirate figure that moves and speaks, shifting from human form to skeleton. Walt Disney Imagineering explained that this effect uses hybrid technology combining front projection with mechanical articulation for characterful faces. While the visual effect is impressive, some guests found the new audio too loud for the scene’s intended eerie atmosphere. The updated figure sits on a gold pile at the beginning of the ride and transforms as boats pass by. Overall, reviewers consider it an innovative addition despite minor concerns about sound volume.
