A dining dispute at Disney’s Contemporary Resort escalated into a full-blown arrest after a guest allegedly became physical with Cast Members inside Steakhouse 71. According to reports from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a disturbance at the popular Walt Disney World restaurant on May 19. The incident involved a 57-year-old woman, identified as Leslie Helen Varley, who was reportedly upset over seating arrangements for her large party. Disney managers told deputies the situation became heated after the group was informed they could not rearrange tables to sit together. One Disney Duty Manager said Varley allegedly threw multiple cups filled with water and ice at him, striking the front of his body. She then reportedly removed his name tag from his suit jacket before walking away. Another Disney manager involved in the incident said she attempted to help resolve the party’s concerns before Varley allegedly grabbed her by both shoulders and forcibly moved her several steps. The altercation also reportedly resulted in four broken glasses inside Steakhouse 71, causing minor property damage. Neither Cast Member required medical treatment, though both reportedly requested protections under Marsy’s Law. Varley admitted to throwing water and removing the Cast Member’s name tag, according to the report, claiming she wanted the information to file a complaint after overhearing Cast Members discussing her disabled daughter. She was arrested and charged with two counts of battery, robbery by sudden snatching, and criminal mischief under $200. Walt Disney World also issued her a trespass warning banning her from Disney property. While Walt Disney World vacations can certainly come with stressful moments, this incident is another reminder that Cast Members are often navigating difficult guest interactions while trying to maintain operations in crowded environments. Thankfully, no injuries were reported during the situation.
