The Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens announced the tragic death of Willow, a rescued sloth that arrived from Sloth World in April. Despite receiving intensive veterinary treatment and constant supportive care, her health deteriorated over several days. Veterinarians ultimately made the difficult decision to humanely euthanize her to prevent further suffering. Zoo CEO Richard Glover expressed deep sadness over the loss while praising the dedicated animal care teams for their compassionate efforts. Willow was one of thirteen sloths transferred to the zoo following Sloth World’s closure, and her passing represents another challenge in their ongoing rescue mission. Eight other rescued sloths remain in quarantine under close monitoring as they continue their recovery process. The zoo maintains a low-stress environment to support these vulnerable animals during this difficult time.
