Live-Action Moana Faces Crowded Box Office With Modest Opening Forecast

Disney’s live-action adaptation of Moana is expected to open with approximately $85 million domestically on July 10. This projection comes as the film enters a competitive summer market filled with other major releases. The movie will compete directly against Pixar’s Toy Story 5, which is anticipated to earn between $150 and $175 million at the box office. Universal’s Minions & Monsters is also set to release on July 1 with an estimated opening of $95 million. When compared to Disney’s recent live-action remakes, Moana performs better than Snow White but falls short of Lilo & Stitch’s impressive debut. The film still shows promise despite the challenging environment, having already surpassed Mufasa’s initial domestic performance.
