The iconic Carousel of Progress attraction at Magic Kingdom closed on July 6th for its biggest update since 1975. Disney filed new permits showing Solotech Sales and Integration U.S.A., Inc. will handle complex audiovisual work including video projections, LED walls, media servers, and advanced lighting systems. This extensive renovation means the classic ride experience will change dramatically as each scene is completely updated to represent different decades of American history. The first act depicts the 1960s starting with the moon landing in 1969, while subsequent acts showcase the 1980s, New Year’s Eve in 1999, and a possible future era. During D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, fans saw sneak peeks of new animatronic costumes and stage designs showing how the attraction transitions between historical periods. Although an official opening date has not been announced yet, progress suggests the updated version is moving forward with substantial improvements to technology and storytelling.
