And while Disney World will begin reopening their parks beginning July 11th, Disneyland hadn’t announced their reopening date…until now.

Disneyland Proposed Reopening Dates

Today, it was announced that Disneyland Resort has proposed to begin a phased reopening. If approved, Downtown Disney will open July 9. Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure will open July 17 (which happens to be the 65th anniversary of Disneyland Resort). Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel &  Spa and Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel will reopen July 23.

Along with reopening dates, Disneyland has also proposed a few of their reopening procedures, many of which are very similar to what Disney World will implement when its parks reopen in July.

At this time, Disney World has paused ticket sales and hotel reservations. And once the parks reopen the Disney Dining Plan, FastPass+, fireworks, character meet and greets, extra magic hours, and more when the parks reopen. Disney World will also implement a new reservation system.

Disneyland has JUST shared that they too will implement a brand new reservation system to assist with park capacity limitations. According to Disney, this new reservation system will require ALL guests including Annual Passholders, to obtain an advance reservation for park entry. These are of course, subject to availability. There will be limitations on parking and operating hours as well.

Disneyland Resort has also shared that ALL new ticket sales and Annual Passport sales and renewals are paused for the time being.

And, as we mentioned above with Disney World, Disneyland will also pause parades, nighttime spectaculars, and character meets and greets for the time being. Characters will still be in the parks, they will just entertain guests in new ways!

Certain attractions, experiences, services, and amenities will be modified, have limited availability, or remain closed when the parks reopen as well.

Disneyland Hotel Reopening Details

Disneyland Hotel will open at a later date according to the Disneyland website. When it comes to the hotels that are reopening, Disney has shared that they plan to “support physical distancing as well as increased cleaning measures, along with a number of other health and safety protocols, will be implemented as part of the phased reopening of the hotels and the Vacation Club.”

Is Disneyland Opening This July?

Disneyland

The Disneyland Resort remains closed due to COVID-19 but there was recently a change to the resort website that might give us a glimpse at when the parks could reopen.

Disney has not made an official announcement or even submitted reopening plans, however, tickets are now available to purchase online for dates starting July 16, 2020!

July 17 is Disneyland’s 65th anniversary so it would be great timing if the parks reopened on the 16th. The website also states that reservations are available beginning July 15th.

Keep in mind this is pure speculation and we will continue to update our readers as information is released.

Will Disneyland Open in July? Here’s Why It Might!

Disney World is set to open on July 11th, but we haven’t heard a peep about reopening from Disneyland!

Sleeping Beauty Castle

The original Disney park has been closed since March in response to the global health crisis, and many are wondering about reopening. With Disney World set to open next month, could Disneyland Resort follow a similar pattern to open in July? Some signs point to yes!

Reservations are currently available starting July 15th.

Originally, Disneyland Resort was only accepting reservations for June 1st and later. After a few weeks, that date got pushed back to July 1st. Now, it has been pushed AGAIN with the earliest reservations available starting July 15th.

Disneyland Main Entrance

On one hand, the fact that reservations have been pushed back might make it seem like Disneyland will be closed for longer. BUT, the fact that the date was only pushed back further into July and not all the way into August could be a good sign. If things were still looking like late summer or beyond, they may have wanted to push it back even further.

it’s a small world in Disneyland

In Disney World, new reservations and ticket sales are currently halted so that they can accommodate those who already had reservations as they get ready to open on July 11th. Disneyland’s reopening could be handled differently, but if Disney uses the Disney World reopening as a model — the July 15th date could mean that the parks will reopen near that date.

Disneyland would be permitted to reopen in Phase 3 of California’s reopening plan — as early as June.

The reopening of Disneyland depends on the restrictions that have been put in place by the California government. Right now, the government has indicated that the state is moving towards Phase 3 of reopening, which includes its theme parks. Governor Newsom stated that the next phase could be less than one month away.

Disneyland isn’t the only theme park waiting for a reopening. Several other major theme parks in California are looking to open in July. Legoland California is hoping to reopen on July 1st and Universal Studios Hollywood is pushing to be allowed to open next month as well.

Universal Studios

The lifting of government restrictions would be a huge step towards the reopening of Disneyland. Still, Disney HAS erred on the side of caution. Even as theme parks begin to open in Florida, Disney opted for a reopening date of more than a month later than other theme parks. Again, if Disneyland follows a similar model, then entry into Phase 3 in June could still mean a July reopening for the theme park.

Positive response to Disney World’s reopening could help Disney executives make decisions about Disneyland.

With Disney World potentially opening prior to Disneyland, the results of the Florida opening could indicate what the company can expect. Disney executives like Bob Chapek and Bob Iger looked to success in Shanghai Disneyland to help with the plan for Disney World, and they may look to Disney World when reopening Disneyland.

Even prior to opening, Disney can look to indicators of demand and customer satisfaction for how a Disneyland reopening will look. Plus, Disneyland has more local visitors than Disney World which will simplify the effects that travel could have on theme parks. If Disney World sees success, Disney may have more confidence in reopening the California parks.

Even if Disneyland waits a while for Disney World to reopen, a mid to late July reopening is still possible.

Disneyland Hotel

So far, there are a few indicators that Disneyland could possibly reopen in July. Ultimately though, it will be up to when the California government, health officials, and Disney executives determine that a reopening can happen responsibly. We’ll be sure to keep you updated about all of the new information for Disneyland’s reopening!

Disneyland can Reopen Under Phase 3 Guidelines as Early as June

disneyland

According to California officials and The Orange County Register, Disneyland and other theme parks can now reopen in Phase 3 of the state’s reopening plan.

“Theme parks are slated to open in Stage 3 if the rate of spread of COVID-19 and hospitalizations remain stable,” according to California Health and Human Services Agency spokesperson Kate Folmar.

California Governor Newsom says Phase 3 could begin in June.

“Phase 3 is not a year away. It’s not six months away. It’s not even three months away. It may not even be more than a month away,” Newsom said during a daily press briefing in mid-May. “We just want to make sure we have a protocol in place to secure customer safety, employee safety and allow the businesses to thrive in a way that is sustainable.”

Disneyland and other California theme parks are among the “higher risk” businesses and gatherings that would reopen in Stage 3 with adaptations and limits on the size of gatherings.

The state will work with theme parks on developing COVID-19 health and safety reopening plans.

There is no set date for when Phase 3 will begin and no California theme parks have submitted reopening plans yet.

Disneyland Update Offers Glimpse of Changes Once the Park Reopens

disneyland

The Disneyland website recently updated its Resort Operations page to show some of the changes that might happen once the parks reopen. As of today there still is no set reopening date for the resort but some clues were offered as to what we can expect when that does happen.

The site states:

“Upon reopening, certain Disneyland Resort theme parks, hotels, restaurants and other locations may be limited in capacity and subject to restricted availability or even closure based on guidance from health experts and government officials. Furthermore, certain attractions, experiences, services and amenities will be modified, have limited availability or remain closed. Park admission and offerings are not guaranteed.”

It wasn’t stated if guests will have their temperature checked and/or be required to wear face coverings while at the resort but seeing how Disney Springs is operating right now, we can bet those will be implemented at Disneyland as well.

No details about what rides or attractions might remain closed were offered. Disney said it will provide more information as it becomes available. Again, there’s no official word on when any part of the resort will reopen, but hotel reservations can be made for dates starting July 1st.

We will continue to update our readers as more information becomes available to us!
