Walt Disney World Road Project Extension Supports Potential New Park Entrance Hotel

The World Drive North Phase III development at Walt Disney World has been granted a three-year extension by the South Florida Water Management District, allowing construction to continue until December 2029. This infrastructure project aims to realign roads and add roundabouts between the Magic Kingdom area and Grand Floridian Resort, improving traffic flow for increasing numbers of visitors. The project is expected to remain active for nearly fifteen years since its initial phase began in 2013. Construction delays have impacted the original completion schedule, adding additional costs and time to the overall project timeline. While the primary goal is traffic alleviation, the road realignment could also free up valuable land adjacent to the Grand Floridian for a new hotel near Magic Kingdom entrance. The Central Florida Tourism Oversight District plans to launch landscaping and area development in late 2027, potentially preparing the site for future resort construction.

Key Points:

  • The project was originally scheduled to complete by September 30, 2026 but was delayed by 447 days due to change orders.
