Disney is officially developing a new live-action film adaptation of the classic Inspector Gadget franchise. Comedy legend Will Ferrell is currently in talks to headline this upcoming project, which has been quietly in development since 2019. Saturday Night Live alumni Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell were previously attached to write the script, while filmmaker Sean Anders will direct the film. The iconic character first appeared in an animated television series that aired from 1983 to 1985, produced by DIC Entertainment. Disney holds exclusive cinematic rights to the character and previously produced a live-action film in 1999 starring Matthew Broderick, followed by a sequel in 2003 with French Stewart. WildBrain currently owns the overall intellectual property rights to Inspector Gadget. This reboot aims to bring the bumbling cybernetic detective back to life on the big screen for modern audiences.
