Brightline Secures Federal Funding for Cocoa Space Coast Station Project

The City of Cocoa and the Space Coast Transportation Planning Organization have secured approximately $57.5 million in federal funding for a new Brightline station on Florida’s Space Coast. This significant financial support removes a major obstacle to bringing passenger rail service directly to Brevard County. The Federal Railroad Administration funds will advance the project into final design and construction phases, with plans including a new station near US 1, SR 528, and Clearlake Road. Infrastructure improvements encompass parking facilities, passenger amenities, enhanced regional connections, and four additional miles of double track rail infrastructure. Brightline will collaborate with the City of Cocoa to build the station while retaining responsibility for its long-term maintenance and operations. Although trains currently pass through Brevard County without a local boarding option, this new station promises to transform travel access for visitors heading to Central Florida attractions. The completed facility could provide convenient alternatives to driving for travelers visiting Kennedy Space Center and Port Canaveral cruise terminals. After over a decade of planning and feasibility studies dating back to 2016, the project is now firmly positioned for eventual completion.
