Disney’s Art of Animation Resort will undergo its first comprehensive hard goods refurbishment starting in summer 2027, marking a significant update to the property since its opening in 2012. The renovation will focus primarily on reimagining the Little Mermaid standard rooms, which have received only soft goods updates like flooring and furniture changes since their debut. The new design will feature pull-down Murphy beds that double as tables, a space-saving improvement previously introduced in the Pop Century resort refurbishment. This project aims to elevate the Little Mermaid rooms to match the quality and functionality of other Value Resort standard rooms across Walt Disney World. The refurbishment will be conducted in a phased approach, with the resort remaining open throughout the process to minimize guest disruption. While no official images have been released yet, the design appears to blend the current Little Mermaid aesthetic with more refined elements inspired by Caribbean Beach Resort’s Under the Sea rooms. This update is expected to make the Little Mermaid rooms more appealing and competitive, potentially resolving long-standing criticisms about their dated appearance and cheap decorations. The project represents Disney’s ongoing commitment to maintaining and enhancing guest experiences at its resorts through strategic reinvestment.
