Disney Celebrates 75 Years of Alice in Wonderland Magic

Disney is commemorating the 75th anniversary of the 1951 animated classic Alice in Wonderland through special screenings, educational programs, archival exhibits, and a newly restored version of the film. Walt Disney was fascinated by the story early in his career, creating the Alice Comedies silent shorts in the 1920s that blended live-action with animation. The production of the feature film was monumental, requiring over half a million drawings to bring Wonderland to life. Animators used live-action reference footage with actors on soundstages to guide movement and timing. Kathryn Beaumont voiced Alice and also served as the physical live-action reference model for the character. Music was integral to the storytelling with a unique soundtrack and memorable performances by Ed Wynn and Jerry Colonna. The film’s legacy endures through theme park attractions and live-action adaptations.
