Disney CEO Updates Shareholders on Profits and Abu Dhabi Park Progress During Earnings Call

The Walt Disney Company recently held an earnings call where CEO Josh D’Amaro provided shareholders with updates on company profits and strategic goals. CFO Hugh Johnston addressed concerns regarding the new theme park project in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, during a Q&A session. He explained that while fuel cost variability and regional conflicts impact operations, forward bookings at Walt Disney World and Disney Cruise Line remain healthy. The executive noted weaker consumer spending in Asian markets like Shanghai and Hong Kong during the third and fourth quarters of the previous year. Despite these challenges, Johnston expressed full commitment to seeing the Abu Dhabi project through as it is designed with a long-term perspective. This new destination aims to tap into the growing Middle East tourism market by attracting guests from Africa and South Asia who are distant from existing Disney parks in Paris and Hong Kong. The company maintains confidence in the project’s rationale even amid global uncertainties affecting travel advisories and fuel prices.
