Disney is actively developing an original live-action movie centered on Princess Tiana from the 2009 animated classic The Princess and the Frog. This new project differs significantly from traditional remakes by telling a brand-new story rather than retelling the original frog transformation narrative. The studio is currently in talks with two-time Oscar nominee Colman Domingo and Tony-nominated Broadway director Robert O’Hara to co-write the screenplay together. This creative strategy mirrors Disney’s approach with a Gaston project, allowing the character to remain human while exploring new adventures in 1920s New Orleans. The untitled film would showcase Tiana’s thriving restaurant Tiana’s Palace and expand upon her world beyond the original animated features. This fresh approach comes amid concerns about remake fatigue following underwhelming box office performances of recent live-action adaptations. Fans are already speculating about potential casting choices while the project remains in its early development stages.
