During the early years of Disney-MGM Studios in the 1990s, the park featured several non-Disney intellectual properties that initially proved successful. Star Tours opened at Disneyland in 1987 and was later cloned to Disney World’s MGM Studios theme park, which also hosted Muppet*Vision 3D and the Great Movie Ride. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles became a major attraction starting in June 1990, with characters appearing in parades through 1996. Other attractions included Jim Henson’s Dinosaurs parade from 1991 to 1992 and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective stunt show that opened in November 1995. However, some of these properties like Ace Ventura and Goosebumps Horrorland did not mesh well with Disney’s brand identity. The Goosebumps attraction ran from October 1997 through November 1998 before being removed. These examples illustrate how Disney experimented with pop culture integration during this period while learning which franchises fit their parks best.
