Disney Patent Could Make Ride Vehicles More Accessible for Wheelchairs and ECVs

Disney is exploring a new method to enhance accessibility for guests using wheelchairs and ECVs through a recently published patent. The invention, titled “Rider Inclusive Transport Aide,” describes a ride vehicle system that allows guests to board without transferring out of their mobility devices. Filed in March 2025 and published on September 17, 2026, the concept features a moving platform built into boat-style vehicles that can hold wheelchairs or scooters while keeping them level during movement. This design aims to improve comfort for riders and simplify the loading process by maintaining stability throughout the attraction experience. Currently, accessibility varies across Disney attractions, with some requiring transfers while others offer specialized vehicles like those on “it’s a small world.” Although a patent does not guarantee implementation, it demonstrates how Imagineers are developing more inclusive solutions for future park experiences.
