Disney Plans to Replace Yeti in Expedition Everest Instead of Repairing It

Former Disney Imagineer Joe Rohde revealed that Disney intends to replace the Yeti animatronic in Expedition Everest rather than fix the original. The Yeti has been stuck in a stationary position since 2006 due to structural issues, leading guests to watch it perform a disco dance with strobe lights. Rohde explained that if the original animatronic could be repaired, Disney would have already done so. The upcoming replacement will likely involve significant logistical challenges including removal, installation, and potential attraction closure. Disney previously announced plans to restore the Yeti’s movement but did not specify the method at that time. Rohde’s comments come from a discussion about his new book Floating Mountains which details his Imagineering career. The project represents a major undertaking with unknown costs and timelines for completion.
