Disney has shared a behind-the-scenes look at how they created the animatronic figure of Scooter for the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets attraction. Walt Disney Imagineering utilized motion-capture technology to record David Rudman, who portrays Scooter, performing his lines and movements. To capture every detail accurately, they even constructed a specialized mini motion-capture suit for the performer. Following the recording session, Imagineers converted the captured data into a fully functional animatronic through careful fine-tuning of various elements. The team 3D printed Scooter’s shell, stick, and glasses to ensure precise replication of the character’s appearance and movement style. The final result is an animatronic that emotes and moves exactly like the original Muppet, complete with visible puppet arm-rod mechanisms. This innovative process demonstrates Disney’s commitment to creating immersive experiences that bring beloved characters to life in their attractions.
