Recent weeks have brought exciting developments at Disney World with significant progress on two new themed lands. Monstropolis in Hollywood Studios and Tropical Americas in Animal Kingdom are advancing well toward their eventual openings. However, several areas remain closed for various reasons including permanent closures and temporary refurbishments. The Rivers of America has permanently shut down to make way for the new Piston Peak Cars area which will feature two brand-new attractions. Multiple dining locations at Disney resorts have closed or are undergoing renovations with reopening dates ranging from late summer through early 2027. Resort construction continues extensively at Bay Lake Tower and Grand Floridian Hotel affecting guest experiences throughout mid-2026 and beyond. Some beloved venues like Jellyrolls piano bar are relocating rather than closing permanently, while others like Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano have closed for good. The upcoming Animation Courtyard transformation promises interactive character experiences and new playground areas starting with phased openings in late 2025.
