Disneyland Security Officers Face Potential Strike Over Contract Dispute

Disneyland security officers are on the brink of a historic strike after rejecting a new contract proposal in a vote that was technically approved due to low turnout. Despite over half of the 1,600 union members voting against the deal, less than 50% participated, allowing the executive board to ratify it under international union bylaws. This outcome has sparked widespread distrust among officers who believe the process was manipulated and that the contract terms are unfavorable compared to other departments. Security personnel are demanding higher wages, citing Southern California’s high cost of living and their critical role in park safety. The proposed agreement offers a 4% raise over four years but maintains management’s authority over scheduling without seniority protections. Union members express deep frustration with both Disney and their local union leadership, accusing them of favoring the company’s interests. With no strike fund available and many officers unable to afford lost wages, actual walkouts remain unlikely despite the authorization. Disney has begun training managers and independent contractors to handle security duties as a contingency measure for potential labor action.
