Free Willy Remake Gets Official Greenlight With Russo Brothers Leading Production Efforts

Warner Bros. Pictures has officially announced plans to create a modern reimagining of the beloved 1993 film Free Willy. The Russo brothers, known for their work on major Marvel blockbusters, will executive produce the project under their AGBO production banner. Angela Russo-Otstot, Michael Disco, and Kassee Whiting will handle day-to-day production duties while Mary-Margaret Kunze and Jade Halley Bartlett write the screenplay. Lauren Shuler Donner, who produced the original film, is returning as an executive producer alongside Courtney Baker. The original story followed a troubled orphan boy who befriends a captive orca named Willy at an amusement park. The 1993 classic was a massive box office success and inspired real-world ocean conservation efforts. Details about plot changes, casting decisions, and release dates remain under wraps for now.
