Kissimmee has announced plans to construct a new customs facility at its airport, marking a significant milestone in efforts to introduce international flights. The project received preliminary approval from U.S. Customs and Border Protection under the User Fee Facility Program, which enables smaller airports to provide immigration services for passengers and cargo. City Manager Mike Steigerwarld emphasized the designation’s value for residents, businesses, and regional partners, stating it authorizes strategic progress toward international connectivity. Construction is expected to begin in 2027 with operations launching within two years of completion. Aviation Director Shaun Germolus highlighted the facility’s potential to drive economic development by attracting international business travelers and managing overflow from Orlando International Airport. The initiative aims to capitalize on growing tourism demand from markets such as Brazil and Argentina, addressing previously missed economic opportunities.
