Kissimmee Gateway Airport Plans International Expansion With Customs Facility Approval

The Kissimmee Gateway Airport has received preliminary approval from U.S. Customs and Border Protection to construct a customs facility that would enable international flights for the municipal airport. This development comes through the User Fee Facility Program, which permits smaller airports to apply for customs and immigration services. The agreement requires construction of new facilities within three years, though Kissimmee aims to begin building in 2027 with operations ready within two years. Currently serving only private, corporate, and charter flights domestically, this expansion would allow those passengers international travel capabilities. Airport Director Shaun Germolus noted the potential for capturing growth from international tourism markets like Brazil and Argentina. The project could bring additional jobs and business partnerships to Kissimmee while expanding its role in regional aviation.
