Major Road Improvements Planned for Disney World Access Routes

Disney World is preparing for significant traffic improvements as part of a major infrastructure project aimed at easing congestion around the resort area. The Central Florida Tourism Oversight District plans to construct a new grade-separated interchange where Buena Vista Drive meets Western Way, allowing one road to pass over the other with interconnected ramps. Additionally, Western Way will be widened from four lanes to six lanes, extending 2.45 miles toward the Coronado Springs Resort entrance. This expansion is designed to accommodate heavy commuter traffic, Disney College Program buses, and families traveling to the parks during peak times. Construction work is scheduled to begin on June 29th, 2026, and will continue for approximately sixty days until late August. Although roads will remain open during the project, some lanes will be closed which could temporarily worsen traffic conditions for visitors. Drivers are advised to use alternate routes during peak hours to avoid delays caused by the ongoing construction efforts. The Disney Food Blog team will continue monitoring progress and provide updates on how these changes impact guest experiences at the resort. This initiative represents a long-awaited solution to one of the most frustrating aspects of visiting the theme park destination.
