Marvel Studios has canceled the series Wonder Man on Disney+ after only one season, despite an earlier announcement that the show had been renewed. Reports indicate that a writers’ room for a second season was never assembled, and writers have been released to work on other projects. The first season starred Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams and Ben Kingsley as Trevor Slattery, following their characters as they navigated Hollywood while auditioning for a superhero movie. The series blended Marvel action with comedy and character-driven storytelling, earning strong critical reviews with a 91% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Abdul-Mateen also received an Emmy nomination for outstanding lead actor in a comedy series for his performance. Despite the critical success, the show struggled in viewership, appearing on Nielsen’s streaming top 10 originals chart only once during its debut week. Although the series will not continue, characters like Simon Williams and Trevor Slattery may still appear in other Marvel Cinematic Universe projects.
